I am a Mike and the Mad Dog fan -- i know many of you are not. This is not a M and Md thread. They are killing Bellicheck. Mike says that Bellicheck should have at least said something at the end of the game. He barely shook Mangini's hand. Mike said that: Bellicheck was "out of line" and "lacks character." Mike also admits that he hates the guy and has for 20 years. As you probably know, Mike is best friends with Parcells. Mike also said that George Young didnt like Belly and would never hire him. On Buffalo: Chris: Tough game; Jets dont play well there. Mike: Losman stinks. Will be a statement if they can win. Would be a good get.
Doesn't the part I bolded pretty much invalidate anything else he said about the situation? I mean, I am no fan of Belichick, but it's a frigging handshake. Yes, there appears to be bad blood, but I don't want my HC to be best buddies with the HC of a heated division rival who has a penchant for winning Super Bowls. I want them to HATE each other.
No. First, Mike said that he hates him. Second, if anything, Mike defended Belly all week -- that he didnt need to talk Mangini up if he didnt want to. BUT -- after the game -- you can act like a human being. Chris agreed with him. And so do I -- you can figure out a way to be a class act. He won the game -- if he wanted to stick it to him -- he could have treated him like a "kid."
I really could give a rat's fat ass about Belichick. Obviously a great coach who assembles good talent (coaches and players) around him. He's got our number right now, and I will grudingly respect him until we start beating him. That said, can someone explain to me why he hates the Jets so much other than the team is a rival in the same division? I follow the Jets as closely as anyone, but I still don't get it. You'd think Woody Johnson torched his house, murdered his wife and made him sing show tunes in front of a Radio City Music Hall crowd. For whatever reason, he didn't like the environment in NY in 2000 (Parcells lurking, Woody a new owner) and didn't want to coach the Jets. Fine. That's his choice, and it was our choice to ask for compensation on his move to NEP. For someone who throws around the "it's just business" mantra, you'd think he'd appreciate the Jets just wanted fair compensation after he left them out to dry. I've read Patriot Nation by Michael Holley, and the issue is really never addressed. Maybe he's a guy who is so insecure he feels a need to have a villain in his life (a la T.O.) to function. It was good to see for the first time in two years he was sweating it a bit on the sidelines of a Jets-Pats game.
All he has to do is go up to Mangini, shake his hand like a NORMAL guy (not with his head turned), say "Goodluck with the rest of your season, and congrats on the first win" and walk away... Just as easy as what he did, but with class.
The guy has lost like 60+ lbs and just suffered a bad knee injury. We can stop with the dumb jokes. Why is his opinion any less or more important because he's heavy?
What was really surprising to me was how bad BB looks in HD. The guy is 59 and looks like he's in his 70's. Wrinkled, mean and a bad attitude spells burn out.
I thought BB quit the Jets before Woody Johnson bought the team, while John Hess was in negotiations to sell it. I believe BB said at that time it was because of the unsettled ownership position.
It clearly started with Gutman questioning his mental stability in the "HC of the NYJ" press conference. Gutman is the only guy on the planet whom I've ever heard Belichick go after in the press. It's actually one of my favorite press battles of all time: Gutman: "I think we've just heard from someone who's obviously going through some turmoil." Belichick: "There's nobody who's ever talked more and won less than Steve Gutman." Now that Gutman's gone, I just think that Belichick sees everything in green and white with that same passion.
True Story: Friend of mine is a huge Giants fan. He catches some Giants in the parking lot after practice. There's maybe 10-20 people all trying to get some Giant players (mostly non-stars) to sign stuff. My friend notices Belichick heading for his car. Nobody is near him so my friend runs across a few aisles of cars, approaches Belichick, and says "Bill, I think you do a great job with the Giants and would love for you to sign my program." My friend was very courteous (he was about 20-22 at the time) and didn't stick anything in his face or anything (he had the program and a marker pen around his waist). Belichick looks at my friend like he asked for the keys to Belichik's car and a few thousand dollars. He smirked or smiled, got into his car, and said nothing. My friend couldn't believe it. If he had told him "Sorry, I don't sign" or even "Sorry, I'm in a rush" it would have been a bogus excuse but at least it was an excuse. My friend stood there totally flumoxed as Bellichic pulled away. He later told me if he was 10 or 12 years old, he would have cried from the bad treatment he got. I remembered this story when the Giants passed over Bellichick and went with whats-his-name (??) to replace Parcells a few years later. I thought Belichick had changed after his disastrous Cleveland experiences when he came back to the Jets and he smiled and cracked a joke at the press conference with Hess announcing himself as 'temporary coach.' Obviousley, nothing changed. Belichick couldn't even get along with Chuck Heaton, veteran Cleveland sportswriter (father of Patricia Heaton of "Everybody Loves Raymond"). The "HC" thing. An ugly divorce. The tampering charge over Branch. Now this with Mangini. If I were an NFL owner, I'd want Bellichick as my coach. If I wasn't an NFL owner, I would want nothing to do with Bellichick.
The issue here is Belichek's lack of SPORTSMANSHIP ats_suck: He is a no class MORON. His time is coming and let's see how he likes it when he's on the short end of the score.His hatred of the Jets borders on mental. I wish him nothing but misery!!!
Why is his opinion important at all? Maybe if he wasn't such a load his knee wouldn't keep going out, just a thought. I have no dislike for the guy except that he's a blowhard. So if you're going to take youself and your opinion so seriously, you open yourself up for it. I felt bad for him when his mom died and I don't think he's a bad guy, but I find him incredibly arrogant at times.
The best part about this game being over is we don't have to hear any more stories about what a meanie BB is.. Shit we have one more game with them.. Hopefully the Jets can do enough between now & then to make the story leading up to the game about the game. Hopefully this is the last time I have to say this but I don't give a rats ass what kind of guy BB is, he is an amzing football coach and that is all that matters..

Archive, hell! I keep that one right in my brain box. Along with various and sundry luncheon meats. Actually, if I looked it up, I think Belichick's quote is even funnier. I think he starts into it with something like, "Okay, I'm going to say this ONE MORE TIME. . . ." As if it were something he whips out at parties, now and then. . . . or, perhaps whispers it into the ear of his paramour. EDIT: I was wrong. This is the exact quote:
You know, there is an interesting point that came up in the last few posts. Why should Belli be at all happy to talk to Mangini. The Jets just cost them their Super Bowl MVP. Wouldn't you be pissed off too? I wouldn't want to shake Mangini's hand. What the Jets did was dirty. We all know it. We are just getting lucky that it's so hard to prove there was tampering, so we probably won't pay picks for it. You can't expect Bill to just say "No problem, it's in the past, let's go dance!"
