I hear alot of you guys blaming the players; calling out busts, etc. The bottom line is we got a taste of a rookie coach going up against a great coach. We got out coached fellas. Mangini lost the chess match and obviously, Belly didnt teach the young lad everything about coaching dfense. That 4-3 look of the pats confused our offense the entire first half. Secondly, You cannot let a team beat you but throwing to hb's and te's an entire game. I believe a good Dfensive coordinator clue would adjust to the team not having solid wr's and would shut that down. Anyways the bottom line is our coaches lost the strategy match. The saving grace was we figured something out and started blitzing then things started happening for us. I figured Mangini would know that Brady looks human with the blitz on and no stud wr's to go to.
How would you have adjusted to the DL getting knocked back 3 yards on every running play? Just wondering.
And here I am thinking the our Dline and Oline couldn't win at the point of attack...silly me O_O Why can't a team utilize his Te's and hb's. Its not like one guy took the game over they spread the ball out to the guys who could catch the ball. Just b/c they don't have a probowl wr out there doesn't mean that they can't be productive on offense, especially with there running backs, who all look like real playmakers right now. I think it was more of a personnel issue, although with any loss i'm sure you could say that part of it was b/c the coaching wasn't good enough. But if the coaches weren't good enough, the players definately weren't up to the challenge. Lets face it, we're trying to run similar schemes (on defense) but our personnel is not on there levels in any way, shape or fashion. This isn't chess were everyone has the same number/type of units. We were at a disadvantage in terms of personnel.
There was big difference between the two weeks obviously. Last week I feel we did a better job mixing up personnel along the front. DRob clearly in the 3-4 plays de better than dt. When we finally put moore in at the nose (why it took so long I have no idea) you saw the run game of NE start to ease up. DRob played more nose that I would have like to have seen. Maybe the coaches thought they saw something, who knows.
I agree, Belichek probably outcoached Mangini in the first half, but the bottom line is we don't have all the horses yet. I'd say that if Mangini was totally honest he'd say he has about 1/2 the personnel he needs right now. It all starts at the lines, and we just don't have the talent/size or experience to be a contender yet. But with in the next 2 years we will because Mangini knows the formula. Big bodies on the line, a smart quarterback, solid linebackers, TONS of role players. That being said, Mangini showed us, he can outcoach the best, as I feel he made the necessary adjustments to surprise Belichek in the 2nd half.
When did the NE running game "ease up"? In the first half they ran 22 times for 81 yards and 17 for 66 in the 2nd half. They didn't have any huge gainers but they were consistently picking up solid yardage on the ground.
Ease up. We got outcoached this week and we need more personnel. Most posters kill the players, however everyone shoulders the burden.
Yes EVERYONE shoulders the burden, both players and coaches were the reason we lost. The players didn't exceute in key spots and the CS made some poor decisions. both were to blame.
Our D - which was supposed to be our strengh let us down big time... it wasn't the coaching... (except for that 3rd and 4 weird fake reverse pass play to Coles - WTFWT???)
Were we going to go 16-0? Very good teams in the NFL lose 4-6 games. We have games against the six worst teams in the NFL: Tenn (W) Detroit Houston Cleveland Green Bay Oakland Plus four winnable games against the Fins and the Bills. (Then Pats 2x; colts; jax; bears; vikes). We are going to have some losses guys. I want to see if we can beat the bad teams -- and the fins and the bills.
I agree with 99% of what you wrote...However, Mangini didn't outcoach anybody. He got two extraordinary efforts from Cotchery and Coles on two plays you'll see about once every year or so. Other than those two individual efforts, the game was as one sided as one could get. It was 24-0 in the third quarter!
So its the coaches fault that the OL & RB can't gain any yards on the ground...Its also their fault that the punter punts it 20 yards (if it even went that far) right before half...its also their fault that Chad runs out of bounds instead on sliding....Oh wait its also thier fault that on the TD right before half the WR opened by 10 yards and their wasn't a DB in sight!!!! Also its their fault that the DL coudn't stop me if I was out there running the ball!!!
