I'm not ready to pull the plug on this season yet. I know the Jets aren't playoff-bound, but the second half of the schedule has some easier games on it, and there's still a chance that the Jets can pull off an upset or two over these next 3 games. I wouldn't set myself up with expectations for a playoff run this year, obviously, but you still want to see how some of the players develop and things like that. I want to see if Smith could be the franchise QB, and if Wilkerson gets 10+ sacks / continues to improve. I want to see if the Jets can be relevant in December and not collapse, and if they can do well enough to keep the coaching staff in place. I think we have a good OC now, although he is still figuring things out he is at least being flexible. Last week he was a genius against the Falcons, and now people are saying he's a moron because the offense fell flat against the Steelers. He'll find the right balance in terms of how aggressive to be, but it will take time. Not many teams with rookie QBs light the world on fire right out of the gate, and some of the QBs that do end up fizzling out. If the coaching staff stays together next year, we'll have good coaches, lots of draft picks, lots of cap space- between now and then we'll also find out a lot more about Smith and how much potential he has. Those expecting the Jets to be playoff contenders this year are setting themselves up for disappointment- there's an outside chance the Jets could sneak into a wildcard spot, but I'm certainly not counting on it and that's not what I'm necessarily requiring for me to say that the Jets had a good season. When you look at how bad the Jets were last year, you have to re-calibrate your expectations for the team and look for signs that that period of awfulness is over, rather than expect deep playoff runs (as I expected in 2011).
This is a turning point season for us. We found a quarterback that can make all the throw(boy that kid can sling that football) and we're 3-3 with not much weapon. Be patient people, at least give the team one draft to focus on the offense. Just one off season is NOT too much to ask. We're freaking 3-3, people. A team ranked 32nd at the beginning of the season. Just one off season, for crying out loud, is not too much to ask.
It was more of a Saints coaching collapse than anything else. Instead of playing to put the game away, they went predictably conservative running the ball. I don't think Brees threw it once in the last 2 drives. The Patriots got the ball 3 times within the last 5 minutes. That shouldn't happen. Brees > than all of their running backs. He should be trusted to win the game. It was like the Broncos blowing it against the Ravens in the AFC championship except much worse.
They tried to throw on both 3rd downs. He threw incomplete on 3rd down on the 2nd to last drive. Brees got sacked on the end of their last drive trying to throw. If they were being extra conservative they could have ran it on both of those and burned off more clock. They actually did what you are suggesting they should have done.
I don't think that last 3rd down was a legit pass attempt. There were zero receivers out there. I don't know what that play was, atrocious?
You know what I did again? I allowed myself to be fooled that we were more then just medicore football team. I expected to win three games this year, but now realize we have probaly won those games already. I allowed the counrties hatred of the jets get me kicked out of the bar I go to because I stick up for this high school football team. There was a thread that asked to sum up the jets season in one word and I put "execute". I don't think they can from week to week. I am pissed! I am also changing my expectation so I don't go postal. Vent over!
Yeah you're right actually. Even still, both those drives I felt it was the Pats D stepping up big more than it was the Saints doing anything wrong. Graham was taken out of the game and the rest of the Saints WRs are nothing special really.
There is to much panic with this fan base. It's hilarious. Despite the loss yesterday, none of us know whAt this team is yet. Give it some time, we are not even at the half way mark in the season yet. Lol
I think most of the sane posters here (not those screaming for mass executions when the team loses a game) know exactly what this team is.. A team recovering from the personnel mess Tannenbaum left us, a rookie QB learning on the job and 12 draft picks and 40-50 million in cap space ready for investment in 2014. Also three wins in the books when most experts predicted they might not win that many for the whole season
Panic is what this fanbase is all about. Panic and delusional aspirations of winning SBs, overshadowed by stupidity, injury, ignorance and ineptitude, and not necessarily in that order each year. We are perpetually fucked, in other words. All is lost. There is nothing but Gloom. We are doomed to failure.
Mediocre teams make the playoffs in the nfl. At least one and usually several teams that aren't all that great make the playoffs. Some of them get hot at the end of the year and actually make a run in the playoffs. The 2009 team with a rookie QB was a decidedly mediocre team that went deep into the playoffs. There are several teams in the NFL right now with 3 losses that will be in the playoffs. The Jets could absolutely be one of them. No need in going into the tank until the team actually goes into the tank. So far we have had one really good football game to watch. That may be one more than we had all last year. The Steelers played a good game yesterday, the Jets played a close to the vest game to try and steel. That's not a good sign at home against a bad Pittsburgh team. Hopefully the gloves come off and we start playing better and putting a couple of wins in a row together. Probably we are up and down all year. Still 9 and 7 might be mediocre enough.
It is definitely one more than we had all last year. He lit it up last week like I never expected. But I see this team up and down according to which side of the bed Smith wakes up on on the morning of each game. Crazy as it sounds, that's the way it goes. 9-7 might be still achievable now, but it sure would have helped if we had beaten NE when they were down and the Steelers yesterday when they came to town. The next three games could easily have us 3-6. We're in for some shit now. These teams are getting it together right now and we're not.
The Jets could go 0-3 the next 3 but I have a feeling they find a win in there somewhere and we hit the bye with an entertaining second half of the season on tap. I might be too optimistic here but I think the Jets are going to pull an upset before the bye. Losing Kellen Winslow and having Holmes out really hurts.
Even Gates is injured (which I have no use for anyway). We have no offensive weapons. Is Braylon Edwards available or is he also injured? Smith is nothing without a deeper threat.
Imagine if Mark hadn't got hurt, Rex would be putting him under center every game. At least we have a chance with Geno. House money is what we are playing with this year until we find a HC next season.
Exactly. I don't mind debate about whether Geno is a franchise QB but some people are expecting too much. Honestly team would be better of getting a higher draft pick and being able to pick a wide out and tight end early in rounds 1 and 2. A nice ballhawking I like the running back by committee look, especially because you hear Eagles fans complain about how Marty used Shady McCoy. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using Tapatalk 2
