"I was at the game today. I have not read analysis of the game yet or even looked at the stats. Sometimes when you are at the game, without anyone telling you what to think (i.e. broadcasters, stats, posters on the game thread) -- you come out with a different opinion (or sometimes the same). Here are my random observations from Section 102: 1. The Pats just seemed the better team in the first half -- and we didnt seem to be playing poorly (until that last punt). 2. We werent able to even touch the QB -- except once, and that was a big play. 3. The crowd during the comeback was as loud as I can ever remember. 4. The defense needed to make one big 3rd down stop and couldnt. 5. I thought the Pats' allowing the kicker to be moved back was a plain stupid move. (I know it didnt cause the block -- but why make a 27 yarder into a 32 yarder.) 6. It seemed all the Jet running plays were inside. 7. Enough of the noodle arm comments--a healthy Chad is a very good NFL QB. 8. JMac is a very good three. 9. I noticed right away (I was sitting in the endzone seats) that Smith was lined up as the short man during one of the punts. That forced a NE timeout when he went under center. The CS has done a great job of getting teams to worry about Brad Smith. The only two plays he was involved in today -- he was a decoy. The shovel pass (word association "Shovel Pass" -- "Bubby Brister") and the punt. All in all, I think the Jets performance was really encouraging. As in any game (especially losses) you can find things to complain about (the 4th and inches call; the lack of a running game; the lack of any consistent pressue on the qb)-- but to me, this was not a game they should have won anyway. The big test is next week in Buffalo. I also think that the key to this season is beating the bad teams (Tenn (w), Houston, Detroit, Green Bay, Oakland, Cleveland) and the average teams (Buffalo, Miami). If we can steal a game against the Colts, the Pats, the Bears, Minnesota, and Jax -- all the better. I really believe that 8-8 or 9-7 is a reachable goal.
Good post and great observations. Wouldn't disagree at all.....if we can beat the bad teams and win a few of the winnables, I can live with losing the tough ones or to teams clearly better than us. I'd love for us to get a 9-7 or 10-6 playoff berth, even if we go out in the 1st round. We've had our share of lousy years when we thought we'd be great; why not a GOOD year (like 1978) when we are expected to bring up the rear ?? The team I am wondering about is Miami -- forget Week 1 in Pitt, but 0 points for 58 minutes against Buffalo? Is that a case of Miami being alot worse on offense or is Buffalo's D better than the pre-season consensus ???
I could hear that on TV. Were you at the SD game last year? Because we got pretty loud when Bolly was leading us back. The loudest I ever heard the crowd was 02 vs GB.
Nice post. I missed the game in first run, but I recorded it and just finished watching. Seemed to me that the Patriots got cocky and tried to sink the dagger in, with a long pass that Barrett intercepted. After that, the crowd started to get back into it and momentum shifted. We lost on both lines, but the Patriots defensive backs are nothing special. When I was out at dinner, just before I sat down, it was 24-0. I can't say I'm particularly upset with the result, because I had indigestion until I found out how close it became.
i think the fact that the jets even made it a game today is something special, if we have last years coaching staff with this group of players and we go down 24-0 we never put up a single point but we make damn sure we get 100 yards rushing because its important for teams to respect the run. this team showed it has fight and will never quit and now that the players seem to be believing in mangini and the rest of the CS im looking for this team to make some noise this year and become a legitimate threat for the division next year.
I could not agree with you more. I sit pretty much right next to you (section 103, row 14), and it was as loud as I have ever heard. Pretty much everyone in my section, and many other sections around the stadium were drumming on the seats in front of them with all their might and screaming at the top of their lungs. I could barely move my hands afterwards and I still am getting my voice back. It was absolutely ridiculous, and it was great to see (and hear) the fans showing that much support for their team. Especially when everyone thinks that they are down on their team and expect them to lose (like myself), yet no matter what, deep down inside, are still die-hard Jets fans and will cheer with the best of them. It was also great that it was on every down of that series. Given, the third downs were the loudest, but the other downs were still extremely loud.
Yeah, the end of the game, people were standing and yelling on first and second downs. That NEVER happens.
8. JMac is a very good three. [/QUOTE] for sure....i haven't seen any "j-mac sux" posts in a while, which must mean he is doing atleast decent....he's made some nice grabs in the last 2 games......the coles, cotch, j-mac trio has been great so far.....
Nice post and good observation. I pretty much agree with everything you say. It sounded like the crowd got into it big time in the last quarter.
I was driving to work this morning(9am Monday)...down here, listening to talk back radio. They crossed to an aussie tourist that was still at the game & security was on his back to leave the stadium. He said that he'd never seen anything like it. He'd bought all his Jet's gear prior to the game and he was still pumped even though Ben had a shocking punt & the jets had got done. He obviously (spectacle wise) got lucky. He said you're all crazy & he loved every bit of it.
i was at the game up in Sec. 315..i'll have to agree with you that it was one of the loudest games that i could remember, definately. i was at the charger game last year and it was very loud then. i recall saying that to myself last year that even in a terrible season like last year, it was as loud as ever. and it was still pass interference on coles in the endzone on the last play btw, lol. even in a really tough loss today, the atmosphere was the best since the denver game in '02 when the sack exchange came on the field and klecko fired up the crowd. that game was actually a 2nd half comeback as well
Best post Ive seen on here all day. Some of you fans on this site couldnt bemore negative. We were picked to win 4 or 5 games this yr and we gave one of the top teams in the league a huge scare, ps. anyone who still isnt sold on pennington just does not understand the game of foootball
