Amen. Theres none of that dysfunctional game planning like Herm encompassed. Mangini makes changes and adjustments especially on offense. Once the o-line matures, the offense will be dangerious. For the defense the only thing was the lack of pressure. I hate the 3-4 defense because i just hate having only 3 down linemen. Its not the teams type of defense. 3-4 can only work if you have the people for it and we dont end of story. Why are they fixing something thats not broken? Did Belicheck give all of his coaching staff the bible of 3-4 defense? Everyone of his former coordinators has to use that defense, even if theres no players for it. This is an unnessary adjustment for the team and I think we couldve stopped the run/ applied more pressure with the 4-3.
Were not getting a pass rush because we just don't have great pass rushing players. I'm not convinced the 4/3 with DRob and Von O, BT and Ellis will realy take any serious pressure off of Vilma and give us a better pass rush.
stinkyB's random thoughts..... 1) defensive running game: new regime, same story. Pats ran all over the JETS today which was the deciding factor in the game IMO. I attribute alot of this to a new defensive scheme and having "square pegs for a round hole" (I hope) No pass rush either! 2) OL was a serious issue. Running game sucked and Pennington had to run for his life. Granted 2 starters were rookies and Kendall was out. There's promise for the future, but for this season...... 3) WR's played with HEART. Those 2 TD's were PURE BALLS. Gave alot of faith in the overall attitude of the JETS. 4) end of the 1st half. serious of clusterF-s.. nuff said. 5) Pennington looked good considering. Poor protection , no running game and playing from behind..... OVERALL: I wasn't expecting the JETS to win, but they made it a game. Lots of room for improvement, but hope is there. Good to see them stepping in the right direction. I'm going back to watching the Skins-D game :drunk:
I though the team was intimidated in the first half and played like it. I caught a number of different players on defense gawking in the first half, and I'm sure they heard about it in the lockerroom after the second quarter. Our run defense was predictably ineffective without a disruptive nose tackle and a decent pass rush to make the passing game honest. Winston is right, as nice as it is to see guys like Hobson and BT and Barton make plays occasionally in the passing game, none of them is truly effective as a pass rusher. Only Vilma and the safeties, who are used rarely at best. We need speed and instincts raging in the opposing team's backfield. As much as it pissed me off that Graham shanked that punt, he effectively pinned the Patriots every other time I noticed. That one mistake was a killer, though. I'm sure he'll be running a few laps for that one. Derrick Blaylock is as consistant as a Florida retiree with a spoiled box of prunes. Brian Schottenheimer appears to have an unfortunate tendency to lapse into conservative playcalling when the chips are down. When I say conservative, I mean that he overplays the importance of using the run to set up the pass. Overall I have a great feeling about how the team is progressing, but it will be a number of games before I think they'll be truly effective as a collective unit.
Good post! You have to hope that being able to compete with the Pats in the second half is going to be what they get out of this game. What I like about the team is the young talent that's starting are playing really well allready. We are getting beat by the hold the fort guys who wont be on the team next year.
