(I'm not going to blame it on the defense because you can't do much against the run when you don't have a real nose tackle.) Mangini made a bad decision and Ben Graham shanked a punt. Who'da thought?
I wouldn't have gone but I'll agree it was more that bad play call. Hm you got stuffed running up the middle last down, what should you do this time?
no run game, and chad still has a great game passing...we really need to get the running game going so that chad will have even more opportunities to show his amazing accuracy
You can't after the fact put down them going for it fourth and 1. They were absolutely just about done at that point. They absolutely had no right winning this game,,, to act like they some how blew it after the fact is ridiculous. They showed something making it a game.
The top 3 reasons that we lost today: 1) The defense spotted New England 24 points and then bended inexcusably at the end of the game. So many third and 5 or 6 runs turned into conversions that it made me physically sick to my stomach. 2) Our running game was just pathetic. If not for a freaky effort by Laveranues Coles and a great catch by Jerricho Cotchery this game would've been one of the worst in the last few years for the Jets, and that says something. 3) The coaching staff made some head scratching decisions. I want to give Mangini and company a ton of credit for motivating the team to compete in the second half, but their clock management was reminiscent of the good old Herm/Dick Curl days. All of our timeouts were spent too early (our first one never should've been called at all) and then at the end of the game we just started kept passing over the middle instead of working it on the sidelines. I understand that New England was guarding the lines, but you have to make some effort to conserve time. If you go over the middle you have to at least try and move it deep downfield.
I am going to ignore the fact that our run game is completely awful because we knew that going in. And I'll even give them a mulligan on the final drive--90 yards in one minute means the game is pretty much over. IN SPITE of all this, we handed them the difference at the end of the second half and it had nothing to do with our inability to run or stop the run.
I have no problem w/ us going for it on 4th down..but the play call left alot to be desired. I'd like to see us implement Brad Smith at QB more on 3rd and short. We could run some options, qb sneaks, rollouts and pitches to the outside thatd be very effective
Ben Grahm kicking that horrible punt was a huge reason why we lost today. That pretty much gave away 7 pts considering we were playing the pats. If that ball goes about average distance, the pats get it deep in their field, they run the ball a few plays and thats the half 10-0. And then when we went for the fourth down how do u run it up the middle when new england has eleven players waiting right there to stop it. All we had to do was either run a quick pitch to the outside where there was absolutley nobody to get a couple yards or run a play action rollout and hit one of the backs to pick up the first down. Also, they just couldnt handle new england's front seven. It was painful watching the jet's run game today. It was one handoff up the middle for nothing over and over. The longest play on the ground we had in the entire game was for just 8 yards. Coles and Cotchery saved us from an embarresment.
We lost the game because we only played one half of football......and 4th and inchs you gotta have a qb sneak(even my 11 year old brother knew that)
That's the bottom line, and the main reason why we lost. Every other reason, like questionable play-calling, game management, etc. is secondary to the fact that their lines completely dominated and manhandled our lines.
