First off, let me say I'm a huge MM supporter. Even with all the turnovers and penalities, from a yardage standpoint, this is probably the best I've seen our offense look since Favre was here. WR are consistently open, RBs are hitting holes, interesting formations (players in motion, bunch formations) and play calling (screens, design roll outs). I think we can mostly agree he's a HUGE step up from our predecessors. With that said, does anyone feel he should maybe limit the amount of throws Geno has per game? Especially considering how well Powell has been running the football of late it could take a little pressure off the kid and force opposing defenses to crowd the line a bit more. I know it's not in Marty's blood to have a favorable run/pass split towards amt of carries per game, but it may be in the best interest of the team moving forward. Anyone else feel the same way?
I tend to say your right but this game kinda dictated Geno to pass a bit more than expected...the JEts got behind the 8 ball rather quickly out there and it was tough to establish a run game. This is a good run blocking O-line and Powell can definitely run behind it. I'd be interested to see how Goodson can help spell Powell in the next coming weeks because his speed will be a big time asset for Geno.
I don't think so. The only way Geno learns in this league, is to throw the ball and keep throwing it. We are in a passing league right now. With that said, Bilal Powell is a top back this year in the league. If we were not running enough, that wouldn't be the case. I think MM needs to stick to his plan and throw the ball like he's doing. Like I said, without a passing attack, you will get eaten alive in this league. Let Geno sling it and learn from his mistakes.
I'm all for Jets running the football more, but besides Powell, who do Jets have. As of now, there undermanned at the RB position. Goodson I believe is due to be active this upcoming week, so we'll get a chance to see if he can contribute. If Jets overuse Powell, he'll soon be injured, he's not a very big guy....the pounding. Jets need to upgrade the WR position, this will help the running game also. Jets are just undermanned at the playmaker positions.
I think a Rex Ryan team should be a power running team that can match up in the run game with physical TE against a stacked box. The passing game should go over the top to pick up big yards. MM may be a good OC but it's a shame to see Ryan a HC who wants to pound people on both sides of the ball go down in flames with an O that's totally out of character with his approach. If Rex signed up for MM he signed his death warrant. That's not a knock on MM who was a good card holder for Walsh and Reid but it's the wrong O for a Rex Ryan coached team.
this, we saw what happens when you try to hide a rookie qb. he doesn't develope. let geno take his lumps. he will either take the next step or show he isn't capable of doing so. either way we learn quick what we have and either build around him or move on withou wasting years disagree, i would love to see rex with a high powered offense that can jump on a team quickly. give rex a chance to release the dogs against an offense that has to abandon the run early due to a big deficit. imagine manning harrison wayne colts with rex's defense. thats a dynasty
Until the Jets get a full complement of backs, no they shouldn't incorporate more runs. Bilal Powell is going to break down if he's given the ball 25-30 times a game all season, most backs do. Until the Jets actually have a few guys they can give the ball too it's going to be very hard to run more than 45-50% of the time. 2009 - Thomas Jones (workhorse), Shonn Greene (rookie stud as change-of-pace), Leon Washington (3rd down back until he got hurt). Then Leon gets hurt and Thomas Jones becomes the 3rd down back a lot of the time and by the end of the season he was burnt out.
I look at KC and that is the type of team a Rex Ryan team should be. A run oriented offense with a QB that can make the throws but won't turn the ball over. At this time I feel that MM needs to limit Geno's pass attempts and run the ball more. We'll have Goodson next week and hopefully Ivory plays as well. They should slowly open up the pass game for him. IMO Geno isn't ready to carry an offense.
The option run that they did where Geno faked a hand off to the right and then went left got his ankle tweaked again. You could see him looking at it after the run. Seriously, I know the Jets want to work that into the game plan some but it's a stupid idea. Geno wasn't in a read-option in college. He's not an explosive runner with quick acceleration and moves designed to make people miss. He's a lanky runner with deceptive speed who has just enough maneuverability to put that to some use while scrambling.
Sure give me one of the 5 top QB's of all time and a dome to play in you don't need Rex's D. The beauty of Rex's d is it needs the O to have TOP. Geno isn't taking his lumps, he is getting destroyed. He is going to be David Carr if he survives.
With effectively one decent HB on roster right now, how can he? If Ivory and Goodson were available, then yes. The passing game needs help. We don't have the best WR/TE core and they get don't get any help when opposing Ds know how pass happy we have to be.
We ran the ball great in the first Q, and he abandons it and doesn't start using it again until we are down 20.... This guy does not know how to adapt. He has a set gameplan and is sticking to that gameplan no matter what.
yea and then started running again at the end of the game... Show some fucking heart.. Don't just give the fuck up..
we have a rookie who was turning it over and making huge mistakes w/ every drop back. we weren't coming back, all that would have happened was Ten would have scored 50 on us and totally demoralized the team.
I know we weren't coming back, but Geno had a nice pass to Cumberland at the end of the game.. I would have let him air it out.. The game was a loss, but why not give the guy some more game time experience?? Especially with the stretch of games we are about to take on.... His confidence was already shot... Let him score two TD before the end of the game, and I bet you he would have been much more confident going into ATL then he is now...
