So there was no bigger off season drama then the trade of Darelle Revis. Some loved it, some hated it, some were indifferent. My personal opinion was that it was necessary. Now that we have Richardson with that pick and a D-line that is looking pretty dominant, what are your feelings about the Revis trade today?

I still don't like it. Imagine if we had Richardson AND Revis which would have been possible if Revis had not been traded.

I'll take Revis over Milliner at this point. He seems to injury prone. And if we had Cro and Revis in the secondary with our current D-line. Ouch.

It would be sick to have revis and richardson. Almost a guaranteed #1 defense. The financials would have been pretty tough. Even though it was possible, it would be doubtful that we would have Richardson without that pick.

I disagree that we got Richardson for Revis. We got Milner and next years third for Revis. If we do not trade Revis we do not take Milner with the 9. Would we have taken Richardson at 9? From all reports it seems it would have been either Richardson or Womack.

The real mistake was not trading him in 2013 but the 2010 contract giving up our ability to restrict his movement with franchise tag. Blame Tanny for giving in and doing a contract he immediately said he hated or blame Rex or Woody for forcing him into the contract. As far as trading him now I don't have a problem with it. It would have been nice to have at least negotiated with him 1st but regardless we can't pay him $16 million a year. No team will ever get equal value for trading a guy like Revis. But hopefully Milner will become a good player at a much cheaper price.

I hate this over-talked about topic, seeing as how it is over, and done with. However with that said, I'll sum it up for the idiots.

Revis was NOT GOING TO RE-SIGN HERE IN 2014. HELLO?! It's crazy obvious. Say what you will about Richardson (who we would have either way), and say what you will about Dee after 3 games, but the long term status of this team was, and is clearly better with getting rid of that selfish POS.

We drafted Dee, because we lost our #1 CB. Had we kept him, almost with certainty Sheldon would have been the pick at #9. Yes, we would be LETHAL, and much better this season, but open your eyes people, and look past THIS YEAR. We (could, but probably) will not reach the SB this season. Getting Dee, is better than nothing at all in the long run. It's his first season, and imo he has shown potential. Just have patience! I know that's real hard for a lot of you.

I didn't like the trade, but was happy it happened, because it had to happen. Walls looks good, and CBs can be found left, and right. Last year, both SB teams had a mediocre secondary at the end there. Yes, we deserved more for the elite player Revis is, but that's the nature of the game right there. Be happy we got anything, and be happy we are 2-1.

Loved the trade then, love it even more now. Do not miss Mevi$ at all. As dominant as he was he has less impact on the defense than someone like Richardson. Even in the Jets defense that was tailored to maximize his benefit it was limited. We saw that last year when we did not have him, and this year as well. To be honest, a slightly worse CB that gets thrown at a lot but gets interceptions is probably more valuable than Revis too. Unlike Deion he added nothing outside of corner. Good riddance.

So glad that greedy diva is gone. Just glad we found a team to trade a 1 and a 3 for a CB coming off of ACL surgery. Saving money and getting good players is a great combo.

Obviously, we'd rather have Revis than Dee, but I don't think it's guaranteed that we would have gotten Richardson if the trade hadn't happened.

I loved it then, an I'm really loving it now, I'll take a disruptive beast defensive lineman over a CB any day of the week.

iagree with this. i dont like the trade, mostly because of what we got. i could have lived parting with revis in the right scenario, but basically we used that pick on a crazy reach for who at best will be an avg CB. wish we'd have used that pick on real first round talent

The real question here is, how does Revis feel now that he is a Buc?

I didn't want to lose Revis but he was never going to accept less money. The only way we keep Revis is if he would have accepted a contract $1 more than Cro's. That's $16 mil tied up in 2 CBs and would have put a hell of a restriction on the cap.

While I disliked loosing a "Jet for Life" type of guy and someone who's HOF bust would be wearing green, the long term benefits of trading Revis outweigh the short term and the media/HOF notoriety Revis would continue to bring.

Revis will most likely be back with the Jets towards the end of his career. No one knows how to utilize corners better than Rex. Asomuga's move to Philly proved that these guys need to have the right coach/schemer. Revis' stats are going to drop off in TB and that downward trend will continue with the next team. After he makes his money bouncing around the league a bit, he'll be back with Rex.

    Taking into account everything ----
Revis coming off a torn ACL.
The amount of money he would have wanted in a long term contract.
Getting a 1st and 3rd in return for him.
Still finishing in the top 5 vs the pass in the 13 or so games AFTER Revis went on IR and without a bonafide pass rush.

Taking all of that into account without all the emotion of "we traded away 1 of the best JETS ever?"

I think we did very well for ourselves.

No more $16M CB - and a standard bearing defensive line. Winner in my book all around. I loved the trade, and I loved the pick [not on the very draft day, but after that, very much.] Now I love the trade even more. Fuck Revis.

My prediction is Revis will be traded or released by the Bucs in a couple of years

johnny, putting Revis' annoying $-grabs aside, what "slightly worse than Revis" CB is currently on this team let alone is more valuable than Revis? Seriously....

At best, third round eh? I guess the book's closed after a rehab/contract shortened preseason and 3 measly regular season games?

Get back to me in mid-2014, then we should have a clearer, more realistic picture of what the Jets have with this supposed '3rd-round' talent.

The trade made sense. The Jets were able to advance the rebuilding effort and get rid of a salary that didn't make sense in the context of this team. The Jets D was ok without Revis last year, and its ok without him this year. Best Jet I've ever seen, unfortunately at a position that doesn't warrant paying the kings ransom.

I still think the trade made sense as part of a rebuilding plan. Ultimately, I feel confident it will prove to be the correct move down the road.
