    In a message board post, it's a non-issue.

In a "formal" blog, the aforementioned mistake pulls the reader out of the story, specifically in the first sentence, which is why I did not read past the first sentence.

Especially when the reader has a sports writing background.

If I had a "sports writing background", I'm not sure that I would be picking apart the grammar of an unedited blog on a site that doesn't publish a lot of content.

Heck, I might even reach out to the person that wrote it and offer some construction criticism in a PM.

Then again, "sports writing background" could also be a likely embellishment...

    ----------

Ryan, good read, thanks for contributing to site content and promoting board discussion for people that care more about subject matter than grammar.

No problem, I appreciate all the comments good or bad. Sports writing background is a push, as I'm still an undergraduate, but the grammar error is noted as I tried to get a bit too fancy with the language. I don't really understand how that would make someone stop reading the article as it's not as though I misused your and you're or something, but to each their own.

It's tough to be objective as most people looking at the Jets game would see a pretty poorly managed game on Rex's part, but as a more positive Jets fan I tried to shy away from that.

It's tempting, right? Yeah, no need to get fancy.

When you write something of substance, you're asking the reader to invest his time in learning your opinion. We're all on this board because we can't get enough Jets talk, so we're always ready to invest in a new voice.

If you start misusing words right out of the gate, you are showing yourself to be someone of questionable authority when it comes to language. Consciously or unconsciously, the reader begins to distrust your knowledge of your subject matter as well. Better to keep the language simple and let your ideas deliver the power. :)

    Keep writing, sir! Go Jets!

Good article. Defensive line has been a revelation. I'm worried about the defensive backs though as the season wears on.

He's not saying you have one, he's saying he does. In a very douchey manner.

Keep writing, but most of all read a lot. Not just sports pubs. If you read the hell out of some excellent books, the diction and grammar come easily.

I've posted some of my articles on here before.
They are prob gone because the BS forum is deleted.

I've also had a job offer to work for the NYJ on NYJ.com as a sports reporter (back in '07).

Took a diff job though. regret it.

The writing samples I gave to NYJ were the same as I submitted here.

I'm open to providing criticism. But I won't go out if my way to offer it.

Is Douchey plus Dickhead divided by Funny worse than Douchey cubed?

I fucking hate math and refuse to work on this equation.

We would still have Richardson. If we still had Mevis we wouldn't have gone with Dee Milliner.... BUT It was time for him to go. Cant spend that kind of money on a CB when your in rebuild mode
