"Elite Quarterbacks raise the level of play of those around him." So what the hell happened to Brady? Now that he's throwing to the same garbage the Fish, Bills, and Jets have been throwing to for years he stinks. Maybe teams don't need an 'elite' QB making $20M+/yr. Maybe teams need 2 or 3 good receivers and some big fatties up front.
Yeah this makes sense... if Geno continues to throw 3 or 4 picks a game, they're going to give him the hook and Matt Simms has the support of the organization to go into the game and get a chance to play. Isn't that really all they're saying here? It can be construed in two different ways, one way is what I outline above. The other would be that he has support within the organization to supplant Geno right now. I'm guessing this means the former and not the latter.
I'm taking it that they meant it as they wouldn't mind Simms coming in barring an injury to Geno or as the back up. I don't think they meant to be the starter. That would make no sense.
The thing is that we don't have big $ tied up in Geno since he wasn't a 1st round pick. That's the reason I can see this being a possibility but It would have to be a long stretch of crappy play before they go to Simms IMO. They also might mke a switch to light a fire under Geno's ass?
"Within organization" could mean some lackey that cleans the toilets, or even the cheerleaders. Either way, the only thing that will keep Geno from starting is Geno. If he keeps turning the ball over, Simms might just taste the field. Geno has faced some pretty rugged defenses thus far. One thing is certain. The Jets front office and Rex are tired of the turnovers. They are single handedly preventing us from being a good team. They have been for a while. MM & Lee have a tough challenge ahead.
Think you may be right. Geno will be given every opportinity. IF Simms does end up under center and plays his socks off, the CS have one hell of a decision to then make when MS becomes healthy too. Simms could be the new broom to help clean our locker room
While I don't know if he will take us to the playoffs, this post is actually reasonable. The most popular player on a bad team is always the back up QB. Unless you are Jacksonville - then it is tebow. Sims showed a little promise in the preseason. So did Brett Ratliff. Did you want to give him the job in 08? The start sims guys are the same people that would have signed Matt Flynn and Matt Cassel to huge deals. The sample size is too small with Geno, and the wideouts suck. You have to give him more time. The D will keep the Jets in games...lets see what he can do.
I keep hearing that Smith's wideouts suck as an excuse for him throwing the ball directly to opposing defense and behind his own guys. He has his #1, #2, and #3 receiver on the field, plus two pass catching running backs, and two pass catching tight ends. Add to that an OC that know how to get guys open. He might not have elite top tier receivers but he has some quality hands to throw the ball to. If you don't reach your receiver it makes it hard to catch the ball.
Play Geno and let him learn. You don't bench a rookie QB after 2 games no matter how shitty he plays. Besides, he has shown me things that make me believe he is gonna be a pretty good one.
You're so wrong, just open your eyes and you'll see Simms is a much better natural leader and a better arm. Smith was drafted to excite fans and sell tickets. That ride is over!
So why wasn't Simms drafted? If he is this natural leader and has this elite arm? Why did not one team take a chance?
what has he shown you because I am just not seeing it. He seems tough and all which is fine, but i see very slow decision making, not good in weather, lacks touch, not as accurate as I thought he was, and bad decision maker. Just not seeing that wow series of plays that makes you go damn this kid will be special.
The guy didn't put up impressive college numbers. That could be a sign of him or a sign of what was around him. He earned his roster spot and if you are gonna put a guy on the roster as your backup he better be able to take a real snap in a game. Kurt Warner was an arena football qb that was bagging groceries when he made the roster in St. Louis.
If what Schefter is saying is true, we've got a real problem on our hands... but a good problem. And if this is so, Sanchez is absolutely finished here, even as a backup. He should just go ahead and get the required surgery right now instead of putting a rehab BandAid on it and just get it fixed and then try to move on somewhere else. If Simms is really shining in practice, there is no way in hell we put a rehabbed El Guapo in if Geno gets injured. El Guapo was bad enough before the shoulder thing, putting him as a B/U after the injury would be ridiculous. My fear is, other teams will pick up on Simms' previously unrecognized talents and his agent's (and dad's) phones will be ringing off the hook,... "We want your son as our starter!" That's could create some real problems for us down the road (or maybe not). "You want him? Good. Give us a 2nd round plus players X and Y."
