This is one of the hardest hitting questions in which will likely determine the successfulness of this season. Did you like Rex better when he had some meat on his bones or now when he looks like a saggy sally?? All jokes aside, im glad Rex got healthy, but me personally I liked him better as a heavy set guy. It added to his mystique, a giant size personality with a body to back it up..

All jokes aside I like the Rex who is beginning to look like he understands the mental aspects of being a head coach. The braggadocio was entertaining but it was also bad coaching. The fact that the Jets had a pretty thick roster in 2009 and 2010 masked that fact.

Cimini tweeted today that the Rex press conference felt like a Mangini one almost. I'm not saying Rex should go full Mangini, but he has a filter now.

I like the old Rex, before he cared what the media thought. Now he's cautious. I loved when he told it like it is and showed massive confidence. I don't care, though. It's the least important thing about the team and the media sucks so much dick these days, I like him giving evasive answers and not ever answering their retarded questions.

2013 has to happen, can't rule out anything, it's the Jets.

EDIT: From what I read on twitter, a lot of questions on injuries and starters and competition and stuff and Rex just dodged all the questions. I'm fine with that, no need to divulge that info if you don't want to.

Yes but can you imagine how much more of a laughing stock we would be if he were still making ridiculous guarantees and calling the Giants the little brother?

It's over, Idzik wants his Guy. Who do you think put a muzzle on Rex??...it isn't hard to figure out.

That seems to be reading way too much into that. You're saying if the Jets have a decent season and compete for a wild card, Rex is automatically gone cuz "Idzik wants his guy?" Rex can still very easily keep his job, but I guess if you believe the whole "3-5 total wins" BS, then it makes sense you would think this. If Idzik wanted his guy he could have brought him in this year. His guy is Rex and it will take a disaster season to get him fired.

The funnier thing is all these idiot reporters calling to fire Rex before the season begins. What insane egos these guys must have thinking they actually convince people of this nonsense based on pure speculation.

I mean Rex was toning down last year too, was Tanny getting the new guy he wanted? It's been a slow process for Rex with bumps in the road, but since the 2011 season ending, he's been trying to slow down his openness with the media. I don't think it directly relates with Idzik but Idzik is partially responsible for keeping Rex on track.

I don't think it's clear cut and dry that it's pre determined Rex is gone. They have to play the games. If the Jets magically go 10-6, you really think Idzik/Woody let Rex go? I don't think so.

EDIT: We go 3-13 sure, let Rex go. We go 6-10 or 7-9, I think that becomes a harder decision.

I actually think that Idzik likes Rex as his HC. We'll see though

Yeah- I think the concept that "a new GM wants his own HC" is not an inherent truism. Usually when a GM is fired, the HC is also fired, so in those cases he has to bring in his own guy. But as a GM, all you really care about is winning.

If Rex shows that he can improve the team from last year, Idzik will be happy to keep him around. He will be drafting all the players, so it's not like he won't be making his own mark on the team - and ultimately if he feels that Rex can make good use of the players he drafts, that's obviously going to reflect well on Idzik.

It's not over. The season hasn't played out yet.

Rex has toned it down a little bit each year, I don't think that has any real merit.

Yup all depends on winning. I think Idzik likes Rex's ways. Right now, there is no winning or losing, but I think that he likes working with Rex. In a couple days we'll see wether they stick together past this season or not.

Rex won't be with the Jets next year, he's a lame duck. Believe me Idzik has told him to tone it down.

Nobody knows what Idzik likes, he's taken over a program where he was forced , by Woody. to keep Rex. I like Rex, I really do, but don't pretend that Idzik won't bring in his own Guy.

Rex has to do so,e miracle work to keep his job, it doesn't look good.

You say nobody knows what idzik likes and then pretend like it's a sure thing he is replacing Rex. You don't know that as much as no one knows what he likes.

Telling Rex to tone it down doesn't equate to him wanting to replace him.

Rex's vagueness on the QB situation is new compared to prior years and seems like it was ordered from on high. Now he's gone too far the other way and is a empty shell of what he used to be.

That's not to say he needs to put on weight though, the premise of the original post is silly.

Does Rex's demeanor or comments in press conferences have anything to do with actual coaching though?
