At work today going back and forth with people, defending my J-E-T-S. They was getting some good digs on me. But I more than held my own. But one thing did make think out of all that was said. We all know, Holmes has been bull sh!tting the Jets about his injury. I'm good, I'm not good. .............I can run routes, I can't cut. I feel good but I hurt sometime........... I could go full speed but I"ve only run 3/4 speed........... And so on. He's saying just enough to play week TWO. If he plays, ofcourse he draws a stint on Revis Island. Where he'll get lost. After that, the CB's they goes against isn't that great. Then he'll look like a savior. With that said, Is he waiting to go against less competion? Thus Avoiding Revis. Or is it me looking to deep into it.
Were I Santonio Holmes, I'd be a lot more worried about the guy supposed to throw me the football rather than the guy who wants to stop me from catching it.
I think there are two competing things here.. 1) Holmes absolutely wants to get that one last big contract. If he misses a regular season game, that's going to decrease his value because teams will think he is either injury-prone or playing games- magically getting better just 4 days after he would have faced the best CB in the league. That's pretty hard to believe, that after almost a full calendar year, that last 4 days makes the difference. 2) Holmes needs to play well when he does start. If he starts the full season, there will be no huge injury concerns weighing him down. If he misses the game, his value goes down automatically, for reinforcing the negative perception that he's a diva. But what if he starts the game? If he starts the game and actually plays well- that helps him a lot, and he can argue "see, I'm great, I did well against Revis!" If he plays poorly that first game, he still gets a pass, because (1) nobody is expected to play well against Revis, and (2) it's his first game after a major injury and he missed all of the pre-season stuff, so that first bad game could be chaulked up to shaking off the rust as well as dealing with Revis. If he starts it makes him look like more of a team player, taking away their best defender so that the other WRs can have more of a chance, which also means more money for him in his last big contract with some non-Jets team. So, I think he will play even if he is scared to face Revis.
The guy made one of the greatest clutch catches, in a Super Bowl, in the history of the NFL. I don't think he's intimidated by facing any corner, even one as great as Revis, in a regular season game.
Holmes is a competitor. This is a joke to think he would dodge playing a games because he's afraid of Revis. Afraid of what, exactly? If he had to box Revis it might make more sense.
He's a professional football player who has been a starter for many years. Of course he's not scared. Why would he be?
Revis will destroy Holmes on any field on any planet anywhere. Holmes=garbage man Holmes will be gone immediately following this season Its Kerley time!
Revis probably won't be 100%. Either way I'd rather have Holmes out there distracting Revis while Hill, Kerley and Gates get open. Their secondary was one of the worst in NFL history last year. You need more than just Revis to fix that.
I don't think that Holmes has been "bullshitting" on the Jets at all. I do know that he has been keeping the media in the dark, but I think that the Jets knew all this time the correct information. We know what the media puts out for us to read, and Holmes has not given them anything until one random day coming out of the locker room in pads ready to go, that's why I think the Jets have known and are on schedule with his rehab. As for Holmes being scared? No I don't think he's scared at all. If he's fully healthy, then it's going to be fun to watch. Revis is an amazing corner, but he does allow catches to the smaller, quicker, shiftier wide receivers. It's not a lot that be gives up, but those are the only guys that he really lets grab a pass or two. For that reason, I think that if Holmes is playing week one, he probably has a catch or two, but he will take Revis out of the game leaving the other guys to get some grabs.
I'd be willing to wager that Holmes and the Jets organization have known exactly what's up the entire time and were just screwing the media cause fuck the media.
