IF that happens, based on THIS PRESEASON alone, Geno should be bumped to 3rd stringer and let Simms if kept, move up to 2nd. IMO Simms looks more comfortable and prepared than Geno at this point.

Was Sanchez really "ready" in 2009 when he started the whole season (except for one game)? He doesn't look ready now...

This is gonna be a real snooze fest of a game and won't tell us anything about week 1,Simms could throw 5 tds for 456 yards and no one will care

He looked a lot more ready in the preseason than Geno has if I remember correctly. Of course, he's a hot mess now but that is always excused away.

Whens the last time the Jets had a deep laser thrower? I'm tired of these short passes.

Simms would never, ever, ever start over Geno nor should he. Matt barely got a D1 scholly out of HS. He's a great kid but this is an audition to be the 3rd stringer, nothing more.

It doesn't matter how you got to the big dance, but what you do when you get there.

Believe me, I've been watching this kid play since his frosh year of HS. He wouldn't last one quarter against first stringers in a regular season NFL game. Take it to the bank.

    And he is starting.

I don't think Rex wants Geno to get injured...

If preseason is any indication, expect more long/med passes in this new offense.

If those kinds of issues are easily fixable, then why is Sanchez still bad in those areas in year 5?

Actually there's some controversy that the second string is better than the first string. At least the secondary and front line minus Fletcher Cox. Its a case of seniority vs. mid round draft picks from the previous two years that are making a real good case for themselves like Earl Wolfe, Vinny Curry (seems to get like 3 sacks/hurries every drive he's in), Brandon Boykin, and Bennie Logan.

Thing is I think new defensive coordinator's too pussy to start a bunch of rookie 4th roundish players over the veterans Jeff Lurie went out and bought or bust picks from seasons past. Even though they look terrible.

So Geno's not getting any action at all? Call it stupid, but I'd put him out there. I want to see him start, but it's hard to start a guy who's only taken how many snaps. Id put him out there for at least 2 quarters vs Philly. Thats a weak secondary (even if it is the better second unit) he could build his confidence and get in stride heading into Tampa, which is where his career should start. The longer you keep him sidelined the rougher the transition will be; whereas if he is fool's gold, Sanchez isn't going to get any better or worse if we have to bring him in midseason.

Lmao. That was hilarious. Or maybe Im drunk, but that was funny. I think the thing with Sanchez is he thinks he's already good. You can say you're working on your game every off season, but anybody that would throw a bitchfit over Brunell getting reps with the starters or pose for those GQ pictures suffers from too much confidence.

I actually think, even if Geno is JaMarcus Russel in a clever disguise, at least the situation may humble him to the point where he knows he needs to work on his game lest he become the next Matt Leinart. These USC QBs are so coddled and we've coddled him even more. Really Geno's doing him a favor.

Fans should be paid to see any 4th exhibition game of any team.

And to compound on what Moon said, you have Sanchez's OVER confidence up to about mid way last year as well as I personally don't feel like he really had a good QB coach either. Anyway you look at it, his shell shock, over confidence and the way the Jets coddled him has ruined him...at least as far as playing in NY goes. Maybe another team.

With the right coaching maybe Simms/Geno will be different.

what good is a rocket arm, if you're always giving the ball to the other team?

consequently, what good an average arm if you're brain/play recognition skills are so bad that you throw td picks to the other team's defensive linemen?

i'd be perfectly ok with putting McElroy on ir and having a real open competition amongst McElroy, simms, smith and anyone else. even if it happens next year.

by then, el taco, tone, and even harris may be gone along with freeing up a lot of cap space. then, other team areas ( outside linebacker, safety, wide receiver, running back) can get upgrades via free agency , preferably via the draft instead.
