To prove what a farce this article is, when I opened the thread I expected to read how Sanchez had the job locked up. Smith is going to start when he is ready, period. Whether that is now or during the season. What is so shocking about that?
Can we stop the inappropriate and completely unnecessary gay slurs please??? Especially from a mod. It has no place on this board.
The four playoff victories were so long ago they are irrelevant given Sanchez' performance in 2011 and 2012. What does a game played in January 2011 have to do with the 2013 season?
if that's the case well then Sanchez has the edge and the experience. Geno starting week 1 makes no sense.
How the fuck would this make the competition rigged? With 2 strong days in a row over Sanchez, Geno has outplayed Sanchez in camp. Sanchez had a chance to win the competition by playing "consistently high level football" as MM said, and he failed. If Geno can play turnover free in Saturday's game he SHOULD win the competition. There would be nothing rigged about it.
So, half the time it's not a competition because Rex is in cahoots with Sanchez, and now, it's not a competition because Idzik wants Smith as the QB of the future. Uh, OK. The real truth here is that sports media is a joke. Rex wants to WIN NOW so he can keep his job. He wants to start the best QB possible. Whether that's Sanchez or Smith remains to be seen. Idzik wants to see both Geno and Mark, to figure out whether the Jets longterm solution at QB is on the current roster or not. If Sanchez stinks or else Smith is really good, Idzik needs to find that out, because it'll help determined what happens to Sanchez next year. If Smith ISN'T ready, it makes no sense that Idzik would be plotting to start him anyway.
I don't really understand why the organization would have to "rig" anything. It's not like Sanchez is a good QB that has earned a starting job. If the jets wanted geno to start from day 1, why not just say we drafted him and he's our guy?
Just by the fact that Sanchez wasn't named starter at this point I knew this reeked of desperation by the FO to give Geno more time to show something. Starting Geno is a mistke IMO
 Yeah it's rigged! Damn those dastardly Jets!!! I wish reporters held the same scrutiny to other teams with QB competitions. Oh, man Weeden won in Cleveland! IT WAS RIGGED!!! WOW WHAT A CIRCUS!!!
The biggest problem with his entire stupid theory is that there would be no reason for the Jets to pretend to have a competition. They could have just said Geno is our starter and given him all the reps to help him get ready if they were going with him no matter what. Stupid.
Manish is a joke. The reason anyone is still talking about the QB competition is because Nacho isn't good enough to have wrapped up the competition. He's shown in year 5 that he makes the same stupid mistakes that have plagued him his entire career. At some point the coaches have to just accept he isn't the guy to lead this team. Unless he played lights out in pre-season and in the reg season he has no chance at being on this team next year. The process was simple, let Mark show he's matured while also letting Geno show how much he's developed. Mark has played him self into a tight competition by playing poorly and may have played himself out of the starting role. That's on him, not any scheme by the Jets front office to push him aside. Mark made the dumb mistakes and he continues to do so. The only issue left for them to look at is how much has Geno learned from his mistakes, how well has he developed within the system, can he be effective leading this team come game 1. The time for dumbing down the playbook for a 5th year QB who can't read defenses, can't read the entire field to find the open guy, and can't make any throw consistently enough to be a legit starter is over. If they need to coddle Nacho at all or change the playbook at all then why bother, let Geno develop, see if he can improve and reach beyond the ceiling that we know Nacho has (imho it won't take that long for him to surpass Nacho in that regard) and see if they really have the QB of the future or whether they need to draft one next spring.
Mehta is an anagram for Hatem Mannish is an anagram for Shaminn It's a shaminn that he hatem Jets , but yet it is so clear.
My favorite part of this 'article' He's trying to imply that Sanchez's performance has earned him the starting nod but because of a rigged jury he's being unfairly passed over! It's clear to almost everyone that Sanchez has not taken that step forward you would expect from a 5th year pro. The fact that he wasn't able to blow the doors off of a rookie in this competition falls squarely on his shoulders. There was no stacked deck here - and if it were stacked - it certainly wasn't in Geno's favor.
Who's to say that the same equation didn't apply to Sanchez? Maybe Sanchez had (and failed) an easier assignment - "Don't turn the ball over in the redzone"!
Of course Smith is going to be the starter and it didn't take a conspiracy to determine that. Whether it is week 1, 3 or 6 he will start before the season is half over. They didn't draft him high in the 2nd and think of drafting him in the first so he could sit. If they could have traded Sanchez they would have, if not for his contract they would have already cut him and brought in another backup. Much like they drafted Sanchez and made him the immediate starter they will do the same with smith.
