I'll give you another... (playing Devils advocate here) 11. Geno looks fragile 12. Mark is as tough as they come Ooops that was 2.
This is the kind of stuff I hate to hear. I realize that you want to make the play, but Cro needs to be aware that one good play in practice is not worth risking the health of our potential #1 receiver. He has to play smarter.
So used to Sanchez practices, I thought that was a typo, incompletion's. Thought it should have been Interceptions
this is just for appearance to appease the naive geno backers out there. Mark has the full confidence of Rex and will be taking the reps when it matters on opening day geno can give his family/fans something to cheer about in this preseason exhibiton
I love this kind of stuff. If they are going this hard during practice can you imagine the intensity they will bring to the game?
Of course I'd love for Geno Smith to become our next pure fire franchise quarterback since Pennington (minus the injuries) but I also hope for Mark Sanchez to become the leader that some of us know/believe he can be. With an improved offensive line (hopefully) along with an actual experienced offensive coordinator I really do wonder how well Sanchez can do with absolute players surrounding him such as Powell and Ivory out of the backfield to go along with a crazy amount of pass catching talents in Stephen Hill, Braylon Edwards, Jeremy Kerley, Kellen Winslow Jr., Jeff Cumberland followed by Santonio Holmes. He's truthfully never been surrounded by this many pass catching options. Ever. And heading into year number five he's under his 3rd offensive coordinator. But this time instead of the likes of Shotty Jr. and Sparano (developing OC's) he's now under a veteran X'S and O's type of OC in which loves to utilize all of his talented players. McKnight, get your head on right. Because McKnight can shine under Marty. But what if during year number five it just all clicks for Sanchez? From the mistakes during practices and games, experience from postseason experiences on the road in Cincy, SD, NE, Pittsburgh and Indy x2, the struggles, the hard hits, the loses etc. the film study. What if it all soaks in, and Sanchez comes back fighting strong. One thing about this kid is, he's always gotten up. Hit after hit. Mistake after mistake. Loss after loss over the previous two years. He gets back up. Kid has my full support as a starter. Lastly in regards to Geno looking fragile, I don't personally see it but looks can be deceiving. Sanchez is 6'2/225 while Geno's 6'3/221. And during Geno's days with WVU he did take some pretty big hits. And like Sanchez, he always got up. Kid is a fighter as well. Can tell in his eyes, the way he speaks. It's almost as if he's angry but yet, very humble. On film Geno reminds me of a strong pocket passing quarterback both physically and mentally. He's not a running quarterback whatsoever, however this kid can scramble. 1,465 drop backs (pass attempts) and 245 rushes with WVU. He's experienced for a rookie coming out, he's taken some licks and he seems smarter than most QB's coming out. Watch the interview with Jon Gruden and Geno Smith. On youtube. I was mind boggled on how mature and smart with the X's and O's Geno Smith really was. Teams that needed a quarterback, that passed up on Geno, they'll regret it. Pay attention to his approach on the field and more importantly, during interviews. His character. He's hungry for success on the next level.
Yeah I agree. I cringed when I read that. I love the intensity, but Hill is a guy that can not afford to miss any time. We need this kid as much as anyone. Getting one big hit in practice just isnt worth it.
Im sorry, I just cant get over your name... "lyfah". What the hell is that? Like some toolish way of saying life? As for your post... whatever babbling bullshit that is, you are the only one that believes it.
MMehtaNYDN: Geno Smith has been on fire today: 15 for 16, 2 TDs so far. #nyj BrianCoz: Beautiful catch by Stephen Hill over Mike Edwards for a TD #NYJ Cnimbley: Antwan Barnes had an outstanding day today, looked good in team drills & in matchup drills against o-line CLoprestiWFAN: Meanwhile, between 7-on-7 and team drills, Ryan Spadola has at least 5 catches today. He's everywhere. No drops. #NYJ SethWalderNYDN: QB stats: Geno w/ first team (against 1st and 3rd D) 15-16, 2 TDs, sack. Sanchez 10-14, TD, 3 sacks. #nyj Great day for both QBs. Very good to hear Geno stepped up today, hopefully he carries that momentum into the game Saturday.
I dont get what you are saying. They are letting him complete passes? That is of course ridiculous. Are you referring to letting him start v Giants? That is an expensive ruse, since you take valuable reps away from MS both during this weeks practices as well as an important get-your-shit-together preseason game. I could see a situation where Rex wants MS to start game 1, but he is being forced by MM and JI to give Geno a legit look, but thats as far as I would go with any conspiracy. If the above if true, then Geno does have a shot to start the regular season if he impresses MM and JI enough to go against RRs wishes.
Manish Mehta @MMehtaNYDN 1h After Geno's practice, I fully anticipate Rex to open his press conference like this: "Woo! What's the opposite of 'Worst Practice Ever?'"?
Comparing Geno's and Mark's stats to see who wins out is irrelevant. The coaching staff is looking for completely different things from both QB's. Mark? He has to show veteran leadership, command of the offense, respect of the team, and show he's moved passed bone head mistakes. Geno? He has to show promise. He has to show significant improvement from the start of mini camps. He just has to show he is coachable, likeable, respected, and continuing to grow into a true leader of the team. If after watching Geno play the last month Idzik can see Geno as the QB he's always wanted, then that's enough to give Geno the ball. Rex hit the nail on the head when he said neither QB has shown enough, so the competition continues. As far as playing Mark into the 3rd QTR last week makes sense. Geno most likely would get the 3rd game with all the 1st team reps that come with that, so Game #2 was Marks final warm up if he's indeed anointed.
After 3 weeks of TC (pretty much 3 weeks) - it appears Stephen Hill has much better chemistry with Geno then with Mark.
