Can he develop beyond our no. 3? We've brought so many other guys in its hard to tell how the org views him.

If Sanchez is gone after this season than he will almost definitely be our back up next season.

He's a serviceable backup and IMO he's better than Sanchez right now.

    3rd string

We need a true back up who could win a game or 2 if Geno ever gets hurt

I think he could be our backup... I really don't wanna see him leave he can be a good backup... He has shown he can manage the game, while making enough plays to win the game.

He's probably the next Joe Montana ... Tom Brady at worst.

He is like a smaller and weaker Chad Pennington. Awesome ball faking skills at least

He will be a great backup, or possibly worth a 4th round draft pick max.

Greg McElroy currently only competing for No. 3 QB role, per Rex Ryan http://wp.me/p14QSB-9eJC

this kid is a 3rd qb. he is a guy who can run the scout team but probably shouldnt see the field.

i dont think he even really has a problem with that. it is what it is.

he could be a stable second QB for the foreseeable future assuming Geno gets the gig at starter.

he's good enough to come in and be good, but not enough to hang ones hat on as a number 1 QB.

Leberfeld thinks Rex doesn't like McElroy. It wouldn't shock me honestly.

McElroy has no future as a starter here. At best, he'll be a long-term backup, unless he suddenly gets better.

I have no problem with Mcelroy being our longterm backup once we cut Muck loose.

    Same here.
McElroy's strengths should fit perfectly in a MM WCO.

Quite surprised he's even back for this year after letting his mouth go last season.
I like like him and still think he;s getting better, the bigger question I have with him is how high is his ceiling?
If Sanchez plays well , GMac won't even be our #2 next season

Nowhere. He does not have an NFL arm. Once Smith takes over, Sanchez will be cut in 2014 and the Jets should add a veteran back up with NFL skills.

A decent backup. Hope he wins the 3rd job. Wouldn't want him as a long term starter but he will always be cheap and a guy who knows the system and can play mistake free if disaster strikes the top 2.
