Our FO was foolish to think that drafting a pair of impressive looking biceps would get them a decent football player.
ahh the 70's..... was around 10 or 11 yrs old and watching matt robinson run around and make plays was probably the initial hook for me as a jet fan.
I guess you didn't pay attention to my posts, but you weren't around in 2008 posting. I've seen Gholston's entire career at OSU, every play. He was a loner at OSU, never wanted to be part of the team. Had very little desire to improve his play and was just a great athlete that pretended to be a football player. I warned Jet Fans at TGG, buyer beware.
this is pretty funny and corroborates what you say ww: http://forums.theganggreen.com/showthread.php?t=31232
Compared to YOU, the team that drafted you is like the 1992 Cowboys combined with the 1992 USA Olympic basketball team.
Stiff. No hips & no motor.Inability to do anything but bull rush & being below average at that. Jets I think played their part too though. Training camp 2008 (Gholston's rookie year) he looked like he would at least be an average pass rusher occasionally beating both Woody & Brick. But he lacked basic fundamentals & was not made for Special teams. Still Mangini kept trying him at all these different ST spots..none of which Vern could do. He'd end up staying an extra 30 or so w/ Westhoff & Co. after practice to work on the basics. Somewhere within that he lost his confidence. The average pass rusher became useless bench warmer.
Check out his college stats: he had 14.5 sacks but like 37 total tackles. So if sacks are counted as tackles, that means outside of his sack totals he had 23 tackles for the season. By comparison, Justin Smith playing DE coming out of Missouri had recorded 92 tackles, good for third on the team with 16 of those tackles for loss... That tells you if the Ghost wasn't speed rushing off the edge, he was basically doing nothing. He can't cover, can't tackle, can't understand a defensive playbook, can't make plays in space, can't shed blocks, has no moves, is worthless in run defense...
:rofl2: we couldn't cut him due to cap it. blame the former gm, he gave him an outrageous guaranteed contract.hmy:
One of the few things I can't blame Tannenshit on..back then #6 overall picks were always going to get a huge guaranteed contract. Thank goodness for the new CBA.
Nothing went wrong.. Lots of people thought he would be a bust, including me. I must admit, he was far worse than even I thought he would be.
