http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/jets/post/_/id/23371/ducasse-looks-to-catch-on-with-jets Apparently he's going to play hard now that he is in a contract year, whats worse was the article reminded me Ducasse was a 2nd round pick. IMO Ducasse will suffer again in the zone blocking scheme and will put on the Tannybum hall of shame. I have come to realize that other than drafting Revis, Harris, Mangold, and D'Brick, Tanny has really struck out in terms of drafting. On a somewhat related note, has there been any news of Idzik firing any scouts/Bradway yet?
Keller Wilkerson Greene Wilson Coples Were solid draft picks too. To be fair Vlad has improved every year so we can't assume he's gonna suck playing in a zone blocking scheme.
I will give you Wilkerson, but jurys still out on Coples for me. Wilson is a first round nickel back. Greene was traded up for at the top of the 3rd round, but could barely crack 1,000 yards in a ground and pound offense. Keller was invisible half the time for a 1st round pick. While none of these guys are "busts" they have underperformed for their position they were drafted.
Screw Ducasse! Guy has been a bum since he was drafted. You don't draft a project in round 2. Those type players are for rounds 5-7
You do Realize that for most of his time with the Jets Keller was either 1st or 2nd in receptions....How that's being invisable is a little beyond me...
Yeah and don't forget we traded back up in the first round that year to get keller. He just never developed into a consistent enough target and his run blocking is horrible. I wouldn't call him a complete bust, but not one of tanny's better first round picks.
What about Kerley, Wilkerson, Coples, Hill, Leon Washington, B. Smith, Slauson?????? You missed a lot of good players buddy and I'm sure there's more.
Players drafted AFTER Ducasse in 2010: Saints TE Jimmy Graham, Patriots LB Brandon Spikes, Patriots TE Aaron Hernandez, Steelers WR's Emmanuel Sanders and Antonio Brown and probably more I am forgetting.
And the OLine was better overall in a ZB scheme instead of Man to man. This is a positive change and for a so-called road-grater like Vlad, he should prosper. Even if he isn't a starter and becomes a solid jumbo package/TE/fill in guard, its a win cause he'll be cheap to resign.
its funny how the world turns. just last year everyone was blaming the zone blocking scheme for his bad play. they were saying he had to think too much and said that the move to the man blocking scheme would make a world of difference.... not saying it was you saying that just making an observation.
This. I'll believe it when I see it. Reminds me of the reports during training camp last year that Sanchez just had a different, more confident "vibe" to him and had more "zip" on his passes than in the past. Talk is cheap.
u know u almost undermine ur own argument here revis is the best at his position, future first ballot HOF if he comes back healthy mangold may be the best center in the game harris is one of jets best young players-possible all pro d'brick is a 5 year starter who has been an all-pro that is not a bad job at all if u think about it-many gm's dont draft that many stars in the same time tannenbaum was here
We're fans, not scouts that spend months evaluating talent. We have the luxury of hindsight. The scouts do not. Hindsight is another way of saying that you have enough information to gauge success. The drafting of Bryan Thomas over Ed Reed can be viewed as hindsight analysis. But we know all day long that it was a mistake. Doesn't mean we're wrong.
