Ok, opening game of year three for Eli Manning. Let's look past "Manning Bowl '06" for a few seconds...It seems like there are an awful lot of Giants fans that are putting Eli with Phil Simms already and getting ready to praise him for getting the Giants back to a big threat in the NFC. Forgive me if I'm wrong, but I don't even put him in the catagory of Dave Brown just yet. There were a lot of mistakes tonight that seemed like they would have been made by a high school QB at best. The fact is that Eli's numbers aren't translating to the hype that is ever-growing with Giants fans. There are no more excuses. This is year three. Perhaps a rookie mistake could even carry to year two, especially since it would be his team solely. But really, am I alone here? Because I'm just not seeing what apparently a lot of Giants fans do.
Eli has a long way to go before he becomes a good NFL QB. he had some nice comebacks last year and became overrated b/c of it- people thought he had arrived but that wasn't the case. He has the talent and the genes but he's still not half as good as his reputation.
It's a lot easier to throw the ball when your Running game racks up almost 200 yards. Peyton picked apart that Giants Defense all game by himself.
Not to mention last year he was supposed to be great for his "late game heroics" despite stinking for the large portions of games. Last night's collapse at the end of the 4th quarter was worthy of Daunte.
He will never be as good as Peyton, I think he can wind up a decent NFL qb in the future but he will nothing above average.
I honestly don't see the points of threads like this. Don't generalize and act like every Giants fan is polishing his Hall of Fame bust and don't sensationalize by comparing him to "Dave Brown" and a "High School Quarterback".
Perhaps you'd do better with hearing the rants and raves from Giant fans on afternoons on the FAN and hearing overrated hype about someone who hasn't proven a damn thing to me. Come a little better than that.
he is already as good a postseason QB as Peyton:smile: but he'll never be as good as peyton i the reg season. Eli has the tools and has loked very good at times, it's year 3 and he's been starting over a year and a half so he's got to get it going consistently soon. I still think he'll be a good QB but if I was a Giant fan I'd be a little nervous about his progress.
Totally agree. I think if his last name was not Manning, he would not get anywhere near the hype he gets. He has the physical attributes you want in a good QB, and a good arm but he just is not an accurate passer and makes questionable calls. He has a fantastic line and a terrific running attack that basically hides his weaknesses because they still put a lot of points up. But Eli so far has been average to slighlty below average at best.
That Tim Carter penalty killed the Giants. If that BS call isn't called, Eli Manning leads to the Giants to a victory, no doubt.
Yeah my best friends a Giants fan and he raves about Eli. He hasnt proved anything to me yet. Id take a healthy Pennington over him anyday.
saw eli play live in college, and i told my giants fans friends that he is overrated...he still throws a few balls a game that are just waaaaay off and leave you wondering who the hell he was throwing too
No doubt? They were still not close to Colts territory when the play happened and if not for a ton of bad calls last year you wouldn't have come close to 10 wins(not to mention an extra home game). None of you guys complained last year when all the breaks went your way.
All the breaks my ass, junc. It pretty much levels out for every team over the course of the season. If you seriously think repeating that same thing over and over can be used as evidence in any argument other than "Junc: Ignorant or Annoying?", you're sorely mistaken.
Even if you think the end of his post is wrong, there is certainly nothing wrong with the beginning. The Giants were back in Indy territory, and no can say that he absolutely positively leads them to a winning score without the call. Not Eli, especially, who is prone to the mistake. The other thing is, how come there was not one other angle shown of that call, the only angle shown Carters body was blocking the camera. I bet another angle would show that it looked a little different. Those pushoffs happen very fast. Not saying it was, but I'd like a different look at it. Is that too much to ask for a game they've been hyping for months?
The Giants did get all the breaks last year. More breaks than any team in the 20+ years I've been watching football.
