I'm just curious how many people on the board know what actually happened in that battle before reading this post!

And I'm not thrilled about seeing the Pats, but I expect a defensive struggle. It could come down to kickers...Oh crap.

Not to short change what you said, but in all honesty, thats going to be everyones goal we face this year.

Nobody is going to sit back and let Chad have time to read the defense. That's when he is at his best IMO. Then again you better have good corners when you blitz or he can pick you apart like we saw him do all yesterday.

I wouldn't be worried about that at all...Nuge had a bad game and thats all there is to it. He will shake it like he did last year and finish up strong. Or would you prefer he faded late in the season like Doug Brien?

Put it this way. I hope we can get back to that place and opportunity we were at 2 years ago.

I think Nugent will be okay, he never missed a kick in Columbus! So it's hard to fathom he missed two field goals within 35 yards and an extra point. I would say I am cautiously optimistic.

The one "bright spot" from his missed kicks was that he missed all three to the right...Clearly he just needs to tweak his mechanics a bit and calm down from opening day jitters.

He was a bit sloppy the first few weeks last year so hopefully he can get on a roll a little bit quicker.

I hope we move away from blaylock and make barlow the starter. I would rather blaylock sat and we see more of houston and washington. I know blaylock can pick up the blitz.

I think his blitz pickup is the main reason he is/was the starter. I would like to see Kevan get the ball though.

No fan has seen "Gaberiel" play in this offense, so how do you know it makes it a lot better?

Here's my take. I watched a pretty good amount of both games yesterday. Chad makes a huge difference for the Jets. He really is a smart QB who remains composed under pressure. (invaluable). Buffalo's offense was alot better than I thought they'd be. McGahee was very tough and Losman made some tough throws. Their run defense had no shot at stopping NE's rushing attack. NE's O-line really struggled against Schobel and the pass rush. He owned Matt Light. Much like Abraham owned Matt Light...Which brings us to this weeks game. Unless the Jets can pressure Brady as the Bills were able to do, the Patriots should score some points. I don't see the Patriots giving up a lot of points to the Jets. The Belichick defensive style has always been to bend and not break. This is also why the NE defense is never rated as high as people might think because most NFL stat keepers measure that category off of yards allowed rather than points allowed....which makes no sense at all. I think the Patriots will win 27-17.

I love how a win over the Titans now makes the Jets players, and a bad half against the Bills now makes the Pats very beatable.

Sounds like a plan to me. Brady has a history of playing his worst games after bad games, so you guys should go right through us.

Realistically, this should be a tough game for both of us, and I don't expect it to be high scoring either. It may even come down to the kicking game.

I do think that the addition of Maroney (why is it so hard for people to spell his name right?) combined with a healthy Dillon could be our biggest impact.

    Here's to a good game.

I generally agree with this post. The Jets are better and the Pats are worse than last year... that doesn't put the Jets on the same plateau as the Pats... yet. Until the Jets can show they have a reliable running attack and don't have to depend on bomb passes in order to spark the offense, the Pats should be able to rip the Jets apart. The Jets need three things to succeed this Sunday:

    1) Like they did against the Titans, they have to jump out to an early lead... put the pressure on the Pats right from the start.
    2) Nugent has to show up this week. One missed kick will be enough for the Pats to beat us.
    3) The Jets need to have a running game. If they don't run the ball on Sunday, they have no shot at winning this game.

I'll be ecstatic if Gabriel is a player, but we (Pats fans) thought Donald Hayes was going to be a player a few years ago, and that never happened.

We're not good enough to play with these guys yet. We'll lose and it'll hurt, but we'll learn from it and come back stronger later in the year.

lol look how defensive you get:smile:

Look, Belichick owns Pennington throughout his career. The Jets will probably miss Kendall, not really a run-game to speak of, and 2 rookie Olineman. The only way the Jets make this a game is by passing, that's it.

They're healthy, their defense is going to confuse the hell out of this offense...Home-opener, so the crowd will be rowdy and the momemtum will be in our favor at the start...Interesting to see how Mangini will game-plan on Brady.

Heres how I see this game going down.

The Titans piled up against the run and came after the passer a lot in an effort to force Pennington to prove he could throw the ball deep and make quick decisions. The result, the Titans got burned deep, but the Jets couldnt run anywhere.

The Patriots are smart enough to learn from the Titans mistakes. Theyll drop back, defend the pass, and make the Jets prove that they can run the ball against the Pats front seven. I hate to say this, but I dont know how confident I am that the Jets can do that. They looked really, really awful trying to run against the Titans.

That, to me, is what will decide this game. I think the Jets defense can be more than competitive against the Pats O in the run game. I expect the Pats to try and get their TEs involved a lot, since their WRs are overmatched by the Jets secondary and the Titans had some success getting the ball to their TEs. All in all, I feel fine about the Jets D playing against Brady. It will be the Jets ability/inability to move the ball on the ground that decides this game.

You're not alone in thinking the "pats are worse than last year." I'm not sure why this sentiment is so prevelant across America. In fact, the Patritos are better than last year. Last year they lost (LT) Matt Light, (SS) Rodney Harrison, (C) Dan Koppen for the majority of the season with injuries. Cory Dillon, Kevin Faulk and Teddy Bruschi missed a lot of time and/or played hurt most of the season. They've got all of those guys back and they've added a potential star in running back Lawrence Maroney. They did lose Willie McGinest to the Browns (which is more of a hit to leadership than anything) and Branch and Givens are gone. I don't think that makes them a worse team. In fact I beleive they are much better. I expect their defense to be amongst the best in the league in terms of points allowed (after all would you rather give up fewer points or yards?) and I think their offense will be far more balanced with a running game and the emergence of their two tight end set. I think america is writing off the Patriots far too early.

I do think the Jets will be much better than last year. How about Herm's impact on KC so far? What a bad coach he is...Just awful...
