I hope you're right. 5 surgeries in college is a lot anyway you slice it. Also even though you need to go BPA, "need" also needs to come into play. If a team has an all pro LB'er corps and the BPA at their draft slot is another LB they may not make that pick because they're already deep at that position. They may look at another position where there's BPA that fills a greater need for their team.

This. I gave A after realizing a few defensive wrinkles. Jets went for BPA along the board. Jets scouting department is known to be quite adequate (if not better than most) so it's not like Idzik is mindlessly listening to Terry Bradway and Rex Ryan due to lack of scouting data/insight. If he had the balls to go for BPA regardless of what we, the laymen, would say, more kudos for John.

    My sentiments too.

P.S. If Milliner was their best pick available, then so be it. It is not like Jets didn't have a need at CB - Jets do not have one NOW, but will need one in 2-3 years. You see, Cro isn't spring chicken any more (same to Revis) and they would have hit 30 in that time span (after which, the decline starts.)

It's probably a good idea to draft another CB if there is a good value. Jets have a need there - maybe not this year, but in 2-3 years, for sure. And you don't want to start a rookie CB. (That's the key idea.)

The only reason I selected B+ is because the picks aren't OMG SLAM DUNK NEED FILL. But we if picked need, we would have reached, and anyone else other than Warmack would be a C draft. These guys will be beasts.

yes this is true. i think it has evened out a bit over hte last 5 years though. obviously lt is the spot that stands out but i think rebuilding starts at the lines. and we have a pretty formidable one at this point that if we added a guy like warmack would have really improved the team dramatically. not just in the short term but for years to come.

would you say cb and og are comparable in worth?

im not saying he i hate the pick, im just not a huge milliner fan and am much more so of warmack.

I picked B because I think the players are good, but they just weren't really big needs. Milliner is fine since we will need a replacement for Cromartie next year, maybe even Wilson. But Richardson is different. I just think that one of the players we've invested a first rounder on is going to be seeing very little time. With 1st round picks I want instant starters that will contribute right away, not guys who are going to rotate with our other very young players.

I think CB is a position you consider using a 1st rounder on and G generally is not.

I don't think CB is high in the pecking order but I do think G is lower and generally a position at which you would like a solid player at but not a star.

B+ for not filling a need.

But they apparently took two of the best players on the board, one in the entire draft.

looking back at it i have to agree with you. typically you are seeing a cb come off in the 10 to 15 range where the first guard is in the 15 to none range in the first round.

i guess you really need to feel the g is special in order to pick him there. i thought warmack was pretty special, the team behind us did too.

They may end up being good players but they don't fill a need. I can buy the "BPA" argument if it weren't for the fact that the Jets have drafted the same positions in the 1st round and claimed they were BPA. They were the best players available at positions Rex covet.

A team that isn't a super bowl contender and is coming off a period in which they've clearly taken a step back can do no better than what the Jets did yesterday, in my opinion.

    1) Formulate your own lists based on proprietary information (i.e. don't just bow down to the mainstream).
    2) If there is a clear BPA, take him no matter what (QB being the obvious exception for teams that already have the one they want).

I saw both of these things very clearly in the Idzik's selections yesterday. When you are as far away from the Super Bowl as the Jets currently are, the only real goal at the top of the draft should be to add the best possible talent, period. It increases the talent base for the long haul and increases the probability that the pick returns value, in my opinion.

At least we know we aren't going to get the Honey Badger...could you imagine if they did saying he was the BPA at that spot? I think I might literally explode. Literally.

I voted C+ but I really should have went B- since that's pretty much average. I'm meh on the picks...not frustrated or angry but not giddy or excited either.

Bingo... I'd buy it if our 1st player selected the last 3 years wasn't a DL.
