cmon Idzik, do us proud tonight. (i must admit tho, this vid always makes me laugh.)
Admittedly it's comical. Probably because if it doesn't make you laugh, it'll make you cry. I don't know if any draft will ever put those kinds of mistakes out of anyone's minds. Not unless there's a Brady scenario somewhere for us. Luckily, I'm too young to have been around/recollect most of those picks.
we have drafted well overall for the most part in almost 20 years, sure we have had some misses like all teams do but we have drafted pretty well which is why we have been an upper echelon team most of the last 10-15 years
I fucking love this video. So classic! "Clearly the Jets know something that the fans up here don't." -Talking about drafting O'Brien over Marino
our misses are always the biggest misses tho. add in ny media and thats why we have such a great video of draft blunders. oh and gholston and sanchez(most likely but i hope not) will make this list soon. we wiff on big ones. not small ones. thats our probblem. oh and the roger vick crowd reaction is the best thing ever
Regardless of the pick. I would like to see the Jets fans at the Draft boo the shit out of the pick. Vintage Jets.
Sanchez would never be on that list b/c we had huge success w/ him. He may ultimately never succeed again here but his early success was enough to justify he not be labeled a bust.
another great part is when berman goes "as a season ticket holder I am gonna boo this pick" and everyones favorite kiper line "cleary, the new york jets just dont understand what the draft is all about"
I was agreeing with you until you said we were "upper echelon" we've been alright these last 15 years. Better than the Browns, Jags, Bills, Raiders, Chiefs, Redskins, Cardinals, Lions etc.
In the last 10 years, Baltimore passed us last year. The others ahead are NE, Pitt, Indy and that's it. 5th out of 16 AFC teams is upper echelon. In the NFC NYG, GB, NO, maybe Philly so 9th out of 32 is upper echelon.
We had success in spite of him, not because of him. We had arguably the most talented and well-rounded rosters in the NFL (minus the QB position) both years, along with the best defensive-mind in football as our HC. We had the best OL in football. We had a great WR corps. We had an amazing FB We had a good RB corps And of course, we had a historically good defense in 09, and an excellent defense in 2010. You can point to the one game (AFC Championship Games both years) where it wasn't Mark's fault that we lost, but we made it to those games in spite of him. If he was a second round pick, is he a bust? No. At pick #5 that we had to trade up for? Absolutely. Making it to two AFC championship games in spite of a QB before regressing immensely is not what I want out of a #5 overall, especially when I have to trade up for him.
how come we couldn't make the playoffs the year before w/ a HOF QB, a similar roster and an easier schedule? I just wonder what some of you guys have ben watching the last 4 years?
junc, do you smoke crack? honestly. you wanna say that a #5 overall pick who might get cut after this season, and has shown regression instead of growth (and yes i fully understand how bad his supporting cast was last year), AND we traded up for, wouldnt be a bust? seriously bro, i know you support him and i want nothing but to see him succeed, but take off the green glasses for 2 minutes and think about how ridiculous that is
still will never be in Gholston, Blair or Vick territory b/c he helped us win more playoff games than any QB in team history.
We were never CONSISTENT title contenders. Out of the last 15 years we've only been true title contenders twice (98, 2010) I don't consider that "upper echelon" In that time span these are the teams that were upper echelon at different times. Ravens Steelers Packers Patriots Giants Colts Eagles
i guess this will be a case of agree to disagree, bc no player with such a small body of good work can get a pass without suffering a serious injury. i put the injury part in to make sure no one gets cute and says bo jackson. if he doesnt get hurt, he goes down as a top 5 back.
