The question is hypothetical, so my basic assumption is that the Jets would in fact hypothetically offer that.
Im gonna pop some tags Got 16 million in my pocket Ill wear Tampa Bay rags This is fucking awesome.., Mexi$more.
hobbes are you in here beating your drum in this thread too? you just bought yourself a spot on my ignore train. that said..... i dont think its a matter of would you, its a matter of could you? and right now the jets really could not pay him 16 million. i am jsut worried that the 12 mill it will cost to get rid of him doesnt affect sanchez being released on june 1.... and i sadly think that it will.
If I was the Jets I would have at least tried to get him to play for 11-12 million. To not even make an offer is why I think Woody doesn't care about winning just cares about cash.
If you were the Jets, you would've failed to resign Revis with your 11-12M. Your offer fails to make him one of the highest paid players in the league & falls short of franchise QB money. You really think the Bucs threw 16M out there without first offering 11-12M?
You don't know what happened in the negotiations. The fact is the Jets had some leverage, that being Revis under contract for the coming year at below market, and they chose not to use that leverage. Instead they undermined their own position by letting it be known they wanted him gone and were not going to negotiate with him. It is my understanding that Tampa Bay has been going with no guaranteed contracts lately. If the Jets leveraged the one year left and offered Revis some portion of the contract at a guaranteed rate, he probably would have agreed to less than $16 mil, but ftr I acknowledge I do not know that. No one will, since the Jets did not try to do a deal with him. The poll should be about that, and not the specific contract that TB negotiated, which is why I will not answer the poll.
Ooh, the ignore train...you know what that means to me...less ignorance to respond to. 31 other teams in the NFL...an alleged greatest CB of all time. 1 taker. Yes.lim the delusional one...me and 31 GMs. san Fran could have had him for their 1 and acquired 2. (31,34) and would offer no more than a third. Tb decided to go Al Davis. good for them....NOT!...great for Revis....Better forthe Jets, no headache, and a 5 year player.
Puhleese... The Jets had no leverage, unless they wanted tp pay 6 mil, and carry a cap charge next year while Mevis faked a hammy for the second time in 3 years...or did you forget about 2010?
I have a question for anyone who can answer it? Did we have enough cap space to give him that kind of money even if we were 100% gonna try and do whatever it took? I am asking cause we only have like 12 million left on our cap. He signed for 16 a year ,no?
it only shows that money counts.revis has shown his desire for mucho dinero.I can't blame him for that.
I'm 50/50 on this. Agree totally with your point about what we are paying some of the other Jets, its sickening, but so was paying him $16M. The CB position should never be close to the highest paid position no matter how good Revis is or was. Its time next year to shred some of the other contracts, get the QB and OLB we have all been praying for, give them the $$ and build this team right for a change.
I hate to see Revis go, but this was the smart move considering the situation. If the Jets had a smart GM and scout team, drafted the right fit at QB, known how to hold onto the right playmakers, not thrown away draft picks like they were leaves, it would have made sense to pony up for a player like Revis. Mismanagement made it impossible to work out any sort of deal with him.
