http://www.nola.com/saints/index.ssf/2013/03/possible_new_orleans_saints_ta.html Possible New Orleans Saints target LB Victor Butler leaves Pittsburgh without a contract, source says By Larry Holder, NOLA.com | The Times-Picayune on March 15, 2013 at 8:12 PM, updated March 15, 2013 at 8:27 PM A possible New Orleans Saints outside linebacker target remains on the open market as Cowboys free-agent linebacker Victor Butler left his visit with the Steelers on Friday without a contract, according to a source. On Thursday, a source said the Saints would be a top target for Butler if the linebacker left Pittsburgh without a contract. The Saints are certainly looking for outside linebackers for their new 3-4 defensive scheme and Butler would fit the bill. Butler played under Saints defensive coordinator Rob Ryan the last two seasons in Dallas and would have a firm grasp of the system in New Orleans. On a side note, freshly signed cornerback Keenan Lewis played with Butler during their college days at Oregon State making New Orleans a more intriguing landing spot for Butler.
butler would be great but probably not going to happen. he might be rob's bart scott. gotta get barnes though. can't strike out at both.
That Butler left Pittsburgh without a contract tells us that he's asking for more than the market is likely to bear. The Steelers are not afraid to give a young LB with some promise 3 years at market, even in a cap-depressed year.
oh he will def end up in NO, It was probably Rob Ryans idea to bring him in so cross him off the list of potential signings. Every defensve player loves playing for him and the fact that he already has makes it 75-100 that he is a Saint by Monday
the steelers have been consistently good over a long time exactly because they will not overpay. and, they didn't have a so-called cap expert who screwed up their cap and knew nothing about personnel.
Is he even scheduled to meet with us?... if not we probably should of done that instead of just saying "Yo... we interested"
Get him in here and let Rex bloviate to him. I don't mind when Rex turns on the bluster for prospective FAs. I just don't like it when he lies to me.
I see a only issue with us we can't compete in a bidding war with the Saints. I HATE to miss out on him so much upside! We see what happens I guess
Any news on this guy ? apparently no date set for a vist with the saints yet though thats where he will probably go heard he doesnt have too much interest in us but not sure how true that is. saints are meeting with Nmadi.
This is a loss for us...he's exactly the kind of guy we needed to sign..can't help but wonder what the hang up was.
I dont think he wanted to join us he wanted money too.. we are cap strapped it would of been a great signing but we just couldnt do it. i dont even think we scheduled a date for him to visit. last hope to sign a good player in a much needed position is Fred Davis.. i just hope we dont get involved in a bidding war with the Bills
I am pretty confident Buffalo, Arizona and possibly Philly will reach on a QB letting Jordan or Jones drop to us which would be just fine. I would have liked to have sign him, but given our situation I would not be surprised we go with a game changing OLB in the first round.
How can you see this team going 2-14? I do not see that at all.. I'm not saying that its not possible or that it wont happen, but I don't see it happening.
