Why didn't the Jets sign Ryan Fitzpatrick?

They both suck but Fitz is slightly better imo but that's not saying much.

Fitzpatrick is so bad. If he didn't have Stevie Johnson, he'd have Sanchez numbers. Don't let the numbers fool you. He threw for like 3400 yards with two good RBs and a top 10 receiver. He stinks.

    Stats do not lie.

Sanchez was 35th best QB in a 32-team league. Just what the hell do you think that means? (LOL!)

Its dumb to rate QBs solely on QB rating when so much more goes into it. If Tom Brady was on the Jets this season his stats would have been much worse than he was in NE. They obviously would have been better but would you still say hes not a top 3 QB because his QB rating wasn't top 3?

I have always thought Flacco was kind of blah and then he goes and plays like a star in the playoffs this year. I wonder: did something click in? I mean he was making throws and quick decisions that I never saw before? I know they changed OCs mid season. Was it a system thing? Could they have installed a new system mid-season? I actually agree with your assessment. I am puzzled by the upgrade in his performance. Thoughts?

The Ravens got to critical mass last year on that side of the ball. There were so many above average to elite players playing with Flacco that he could not fail. Then he played at the top of his game for a month in a contract year.

    It happens.

The Ravens really screwed themselves here. They're paying Peyton Manning money to Joe Flacco and now all that talent has started to leave. If they're smart they'll go heavy on offense in the draft this year and plan for the cap decisions to come. If they're really smart they'll draft a QB also.

Stop it - the Ravens will be fine.

They have a franchise QB, a franchise RB, an emerging weapon in Smith.. Suggs, Dumervil and Ngata on defense.. and a great coach.

They paid a lot for Flacco, but this is the NFL and in order to keep great players you have to pay them. Something I wish our Jets would learn.

Eric DeCosta is on deck. Ozzie had a great run but the cap is going to tear that team apart over the next few years.

Im hearing via Adam Shefter that Carson Palmer was asked to restructure and he declined so he could become a free agent, he could be an addition to the "Scrub Bowl" for the starting QB job

Dont forget about Webb coming back. Probably the most underrated corner in the league. I'd put him in my top 5.

I also don't get the Flacco hate. The way he played after Cam got fired was incredible. He was great in the playoffs especially. Definitely a top 10 QB at this point.

Finally well said. They still have Ozzie and John Harbaugh running the show. They'll be fine.

What did the Joe Flacco haters want the Ravens to do? Let him walk?

Whatever, but the Jets have David Lee, who was the Bills QB coach last year. Did you know that? The only reason Fitz was basically the unquestioned starter at QB for three years in Buffalo was because of Chan Gailey, who was REALLY the OC as well. He designed a fairly complicated spread offense around Fitz and called the plays mostly. Trent Edwards was the only real competition that Fitz had in his stint with Buffalo, and Trent was cut 2 games into Chan's first season. I blame Chan very much.

Fitzpatrick should be thanking Chan Gailey every day for the pile of cash that he has, as well as the golden opportunity that nobody else would likely have EVER given him. Chan ran with a backup QB, and neither one of them probably should have had their jobs in the first place. Nobody "ruined" Fitzpatrick...Sanchez, either. They suck, and that's their fault. Like I say, perhaps their mountains of cash will soften the blow.

Stevie Johnson was absolutely nobody before Fitzpatrick...Stevie was a 7th round pick that had 12 catches over two years. Fitzpatrick has thrown him just about every pass that he's caught in the NFL...just sayin'. Sanchez has had better overall receiving corps than Fitzpatrick in the past, I would say. It takes more than one receiver, right?

Fitzpatrick graduated with a degree in Economics from Harvard; whatever else he is, he is not stupid. In my opinion, Fitz wouldn't want to touch the Jets circus with a 40-foot pole. That would not be good for his career. If you were Fitzpatrick would YOU want to walk into the QB mess that the Jets have now, with Sanchez, Tebow, Garrard, McElroy, and whoever the fck? Cut Tebow or whatever, but there is still a clusterfuck going on at the time. They want like 5 guys to battle it out. Fitzpatrick went to Tennessee, which is a smart move since that's a good situation for him. So, there is that.

Like others have said, Fitz could be a stopgap in a pinch, but what he really is is a good backup. The Jets shouldn't really want him as a starting option either, although it's definitely debatable as to whether he's better than Sanchez...that's why people are debating it.

People should stop comparing Flacco to Sanchez right now, before they further embarrass themselves. As far as Flacco's contract goes, the Ravens were in a tough spot about that.

Sanchez is better than Fitz. Sanchez had a lousy season. Most likely Sanchez will be the starting QB and most likely he will have a much better season, much to the dismay of those who are rooting for him to fail.
