I'll be looking to see how Morningwheg is as a playcaller. He can't be any worse than the last guy. I'll be watching for Wilkerson to turn into a pro bowler and Coples to take it up a notch. I want to see what our safeties look like. Need more speed there after Eric Smith who was slower than molasses. I'll be watching for Kerley as he turns into a very good WR, assuming he has a QB who can get him the ball consistently. This tells you that this team needs a serious talent upgrade as this isn't really that much to look forward to as presently constructed. This upcoming draft is crucial to rebuilding this team.
Coping is when your expectations aren't met or even a surprise. I won't need to cope, the Jets will only be relevant when the draft clocks start over the next 3 off seasons. Fantasy football, MLB, NHL, and NCAA basketball/football will get me through. fuck Tannenbaum and Sanchez.
In a way, I'm going into next season expecting the worst. If I keep the expectations low, I can watch each game stress free. The off season has been so bad,I have no preconceived notions that the Jets will win any more than three games.
This is a throwaway season, pure and simple. In times like this, it's almost easier to watch the Jets because you have such low expectations. The silver lining here is that we will hopefully, finally start moving in the right direction. In the meantime, we can look forward to getting swept by the Fins and the Pats as we rebuild.
I refute my point it depends on how the draft goes if we go QB early then its a transition season, if not then its a throw away season Draft Geno Smith similar to how Miami did Tannehill and let him play
Standard modus operandi, as always. Expect the very possible worst. Hope for something better. Works every time.
Let's say a team's playing level ranges from 1 to 10. I much rather watch my team play at a level of 1-4 the next season, while doing the right things for the future. Compared to watching my team play at level 5-9 over these last years, while slowly but surely getting quicksanded into Tannenbaum's clusterfuck. This is why I'm way more excited about the '13 Jets, even when I compare it to how I felt about the team a year ago. Because I get the impression (correct or not) that Idzik is truly and carefully setting the foundation here of what might end up being a highly respected franchise. Even if we SUCK this season, I'm still gonna watch every single minute of it - armchair coach style; cherry picking who I'd like to see being kept for '14, and keeping a keen eye of who/what we can salvage out of this season. The key is to break the whole season into smaller objectives; How's Coples coming along? Hill? Hayden Smith? What are we doing well? Who has to go? Who is the diamond in the rough? How is Idzik dealing with the outcome? How is Rex dealing with the outcome? Is Rex adapting/improving/declining coaching wise? etc etc etc When your team is on the right track, I for one have zero problem enduring this.
It's not going to be as bad as some say. We'll miss the playoffs due to some stupid tiebreaker. That being said, aside from Landry and maybe Keller, who did we lose? Part of the defensive line who accounted for our 26th ranked run defense? A bunch of old and slow linebackers who couldn't get the QB's uniform dirty? Please. We might not be better, but we will most definitely not be worse than this year.
Man, I hope we do good next year. But in all honesty, I see another losing season again. God, I hope I'm wrong, because I'm so tired of seeing them more times than not.
I'll be watching to see how the younger guys perform. Hopefully there will be one or more surprise stars in the making. That being said, I expect to win 3-6 games. To cope, I will drink tons of Jamesons.
If you don't put your heart in the team this and every year, you don't bleed green and white, and you aren't a real fan.
I'm watching this season knowing we won't make the playoffs. This team is going to have a lot of pressure off. I'm going to have fun watching the younger guys develop. Wilkerson in my eyes will be a star in the future. I want to see how Coples, Davis, Kerley, and Hill develop as they can be the new core of this team for years to come.
Scott, Keller, Greene and Pouha didn't really contribute that much last year, if you want to be honest about it.
While I agree it was time to let those guys go from a cap standpoint, you will miss those guys when you see the UDFA or a JAG players that replace them on the field. Who are our linebackers this year? Demario Davis has to step up and fast, we need to replace 3 starters there. Greene could be replaced, but I don't see us improving significantly from last year. Keller is Sanchez's favorite option and will be sorely missed unless Hill steps it up. Without Pouha we have no rotation at NT. Better pray Kendrick Ellis can anchor our entire 3-4. I am NOT saying that it wasn't right to let these guys go in the long run, but we are taking steps back from last year unless we see some miraculous comebacks from players we have counted out (i.e. Sanchez).
