I get why they do what they do, they're trying to get hits on their websites and their articles and nothing does the job like negativity, but I feel like there needs to be at least some level of professionalism with these guys.

Those kind of tweets are strictly just trying to get fans riled up and contributes absolutely nothing.

Honestly, with the direction they're headed, I wouldn't be surprised if crazy and moronic Jet fans are sending Cimini/Mehta threatening messages, etc. I think one of these times some idiot will end up trying to hurt one of these beat guys, not even joking lol.

Another thing is that the Twitter accounts these guys use are their own Twitter accounts. They can say what they want, and Cimini comes across like a typical Jets fan on this board. THe problem is, many on this board go to Cimini and etc to get news/facts about the team, not opinions about the team. The blurry line is that the Twitter accounts they have are their personal accounts, but the stories they publish/endorse are their professional stories.

I mean, I bet a lot of you sarcastically said to some Jets friends or other NFL fans, "dont' worry we signed Garrard/Hilliard/etc, we are good to go". Cimini is doing the same thing, except he's doing it from a platform we expect news from. It's the line between his personal opinion on his twitter account and his professional opinion

Right. The Jets are the only team in the NFL who the media has an agenda against. Some of you homers on here are downright delusional. Could it be the fact that the franchise has been in complete disarray for the last 15 months? That we have one of, if not the worst starting QB in the NFL? A dysfunctional coaching staff and FO?

I've got news for all the homers on here. You wanna know how the media will stop all these slanderous unfair attacks on the Jets as some of you suggest? Win and do it consistently and you won't have all this other nonsense come up.

    +1

What's happening with the Jets is not normal. It has something to do with there being 2 NFL teams in town and it has something to do with the Jets going out of their way to get media attention from 2008 to 2012 but there's something else going on also.

I don't know what the something else is but it's not on the Jets, it's on the media.

Yes I remember Pravda. This is exactly what Daily News and NY Times remind me of.

I'm really hoping for a huge FU from Idzik to those clowns. Give em 10 mins required presser and let them starve. Jets been feeding them stories for too long. Now that they are silent, the bitches are bitching not wanting to do their job.

Rich Cimini is snarky, but he's not a bad reporter. He's on the money with most of his sources.

Gary Myers is an idiot who doesn't know the game of football. Manish Mehta is an idiot who gets bitchy when the Jets don't give him a headline. His sources are fairies and pixel dust, he rarely breaks actual news.

Costello is meh. Snarky, but mostly standard. Serby can't go one fucking article without saying 'BUTTFUMBLE' 'CIRCUS' or 'TATTOO'. Like seriously...? The tattoo was a big sotry for a day at most. People forget about that shit rather quickly. I would like to punch him in the face.

Honestly, WHEN we start winning, I don't want any of these guys to pretend that they like us.

When the Jets are aggressive these guys say they are being "impetuous and have no real plan". When they're cautious, as they are now, they accuse them of being passive. I love what Idzik's doing. Tanny gave him a mess, and the the CBA held back the growth of the salary cap to make the bad contracts even worse. Next year they're stuck with Harris, Sanchez, Holmes and others overpriced contracts. The year after it will be a completely different story.

I hope they can trade down in the first round, grab some extra picks and then take Nassib or EJ Manuel in the second round and let the rebuilding begin.

Just remember, everyone thought the Niners would suck two years ago, but coaching makes a big difference. We can't even begin to fathom the upgrade from Sporano to Morningwig.

damned if you do and also if you don't, it doesn't make much of a difference theres an agenda that needs to be acted out and the news will find a way to shamelessly make money off of it. (no problems with money making, I just feel standards should be adhered to in tandem with that)

And I agree, I don't want to see them start, but I'd like to see a QB project develop over time. take it in the 2nd or 3rd and make it so!

I have come to expect the doubt , contempt and Negative media attention for as long as I have been a Jets fan. I don't only think its the NY Media , its the entire NFL community world wide! The 30+ years of ineptitude scattered here and there through time have painted our team as destine to fail.....Forever. When we do well , there is that mindset that says we will blow this or we will do something to shoot ourselves in the foot and we usually do.
I have been to 20 or so game around the country and I have walked out a looser and some games I have needed a police escort to make it out alive. I have never given up on this team , so the naysayers can go fuck themselves. One of these days we will have a team that is built for long term success and not just patched together for a few years of taking our best shot.

I think things have become even more personal lately. I don't need a homer doing the reporting, but would prefer someone who is more factual than emotional about the job. The list of tweets posted earlier in this thread looks like a couple of scorned teenage girls wrote them.

I'm starting to agree with this GGN article

The only way it will stop is when we start winning and look respectable again, Operation surprise playoff run is in effect

I'm glad someone created this thread! I hate the so called "beat writers, pundants and journalists". I have no gripes with being the under dog, but my complaint has to do with the tripe the pass off as "journalism".

Let me be fair, we deserve to be shitted on until we become more consistant and wrestle the AFC EAST from the Pats. I have no problem with that. But real journalism is deceased. The old days are gone when these guys backed up their spin with facts, sources and God forbid, put any footwork or effort into their work.

Now the news is all opinion based factless drivel spewed off the top of the head. Even NFL NETWORK, a platform dedicated to the NATIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE refuse to put any intelligent thought into any of their crap. Go to NFL.COM right now and read some of the hacky articles.

These guys have their favorite teams theg masturbate to and teams like the JETS they always have in a negative light. I don't care, but winning and being consistant cures all of that!

It's not that. This has been going on with the Jets since the mid-70's. It's not normal for the media to turn on and off like a light switch depending on whether a team is in an up phase or a down phase or just looks hopeless for long stretches of time.

The Giants don't go through this in their up and down phases with the media turning into a hostile adversary when they're down.

I'm thinking it's the way the Jets are covered as the second team in the market. There isn't room in the metro media bubble for strong analysis and reporting on two teams.

The Jets get treated like a soap opera because that's an easier narrative for the media to write as the second story line running at the same time. It's less factual and requires less in the way of actual analysis and reporting.

As an example, nobody in the NY media talks about the root causes of the Jets talent issues at the moment. Everybody picks at the Sanchez situation and the Tebow experiment and just does those stories to death, as if they're the main reason the Jets are in decline at the moment.

Honest reporting would be talking about how the Jets have repeatedly traded up in the draft, traded draft picks for vets and signed aging free agents, and that's where all the talent issues on the current team spring from.

Instead we get soap opera city because nobody in the media can take the time to do a real analysis of why the Jets are where they are right now.

If you do that analysis then the arrival of somebody like John Idzik looks very promising and actually much more important for the Jets future prospects than the fact that they have no QB right now and they're likely going to cut Tebow at some point soon.

We'll wind up with a ton of stories about Sanchez and Tebow though. That's the soap opera side and it's easy to write even if it has no value at all from a football reporting perspective.
