Is he a skilled player or just a filler? Never heard of him... link?

Fine, lets sign 3 guys at 4 million each, and field a 7-9 team next year. I'd love to stay in this path of mediocrity.

We lost 11 guys (either FA or released), and there are still 9 FAs from last years team. That is 20 guys from last year's team that need to be replaced in one capacity or another. THEN, the team has to pay for draft picks. So 15 million isn't much, and they need to fill all of those holes.

That being said...How would you have spent that money?

I don't have a good answer at all. I just can see what kind of rebuilding they are looking to do. In my opinion, when you tear down like this. You are years away, and to mention we don't have a qb. We're going to enter this season with Rex Ryan as a lame duck coach. I would have preferred something other than the prospect of a few 3 win seasons.

What would make you happy? Signing the big names (who's club didn't think they were worth the cost) at the expense of later years? Aren't we in that hole now? So more of the same is what you want?

It doesn't work quite like that. Like I said, I don't have a good answer. I feel like, allot of people are unaware how uncompetitive the jets will be for a while.

I don't know.. Like I said, this is going to take along time when you do it like this. While everyone's cool with it now, well see in 2 years how patient everyone is still willing to be.

I personally think Idzik is doing it the right way. Tanny really left this team high and dry, and there is not much else he can do.

When it comes down to it, this is a team sport, and signing 1 stud and wasting the cap isn't going to get this team anywhere. Worse yet, 1 stud and a roster of JAGs would be even worse.

Everyone is calling Rex a lame duck coach. I feel like Rex will rise to the occasion when the cards are stacked against him. The last 2 years have hopefully humbled him, and we will see what kind of coach he really is this season.

When push comes to shove, these are professionals. Idzik is trying to fill the roster (so it seems) with veterans that have preformed in the past (Colon, Garay, and even Garrard), and guys that fill holes and have upside (like Goodson).

Sometimes it has to get better before it gets worse. I'm hoping to be surprised in 2013, but I'm not holding my breath.

I agree its going to get worse before it gets better. Something I'm not looking fwd to. I think it's going to take longer than some realize.

Football teams can turn around much quicker than other sports. If the front office is competent, things can take a sharp turn for the better. That's why I'm satisfied by the moves Idzik is making. If he came out of the gate with one big splashy move, then I would have been really concerned.

I didn't think they would make any splash.. Not attempting to re sign Landry,Keller or de into speaks volumes. There tearing it all down. That's fine, when that happens it takes forever. Like a 5 year plan. The jets need to find a qb. Huge problem.

I don't wanna hijack this thread too bad. Listening to idiot fans call in to NFL network all day is amazing. You personally might not think they need a stud, but a lot of fans do. 5 years in football is purgatory. All I'm saying is that Idzik's moves right now are demonstrating that he has a plan.

    They need a lot.

Fair enough he has a plan. Personally I just don't want to sit through years of this. That's all

How do any of these moves prevent us from finding a QB?

I feel ya man! Sadly, I'm used to it with this franchise. I think we're all in this roller coaster ride together as Jets fans.

They don't... It's a much more difficult situation when your un set at the qb position. Had sanchez not fallen on his face, this process wouldn't be as long or as painful as it will be. The elephant in the room is, you can rebuild, develop young talent, but if your qb sucks. It doesn't matter.

So far, I feel we've done a pretty good job trying to field a competitive team given the cap situation. I've always believed in building your team through the draft and hopefully this will set up a decent foundation for the future.

I'm assuming that with these players being signed to one year deals, it's further evidence that 2013 is a write off, and we are shedding $ to set ourselves up for 2014.
We can only hope we have a good draft and our new GM is shrewd enough to trade back, accumulating extra picks, and start building a good solid young team that can be consistent.

We are rebuilding and this is a decent depth signing, which we need because we have no depth. It's tough and we shouldn't be in this position, but I agree with the moves we've made so far. We just better have a good draft.
