The fake shefter account got one of the mods the other day. Twitter is fun like that. Im with you, that unless its a verified account, I'm not a huge fan of twitter.
We are close to a deal with Goodson. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/03/15/jets-close-to-a-deal-with-mike-goodson/
It sounds like we will, but I hope we seal the deal with him today. This is what rebuilding is all about. Find young guys who have been buried or need some finessing (in his case, some of both), sign them on the cheap, let them work out their kinks and hope they turn into a nice piece for the future.
Manish Mehta @MMehtaNYDN Jets are in the process of working out a deal with RB Mike Goodson... and also hopeful they can add OLB Antwan Barnes today. #nyj
Adam Schefter @AdamSchefter League ource: Jets are signing RB Mike Goodson now. More details at http://soshelnet.com .
http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/jets/post/_/id/21519/jets-sign-goodson-could-be-no-1-rb After losing four players at the outset of free agency, the Jets finally made an aggressive move. They signed former Raiders running back Mike Goodson to a three-year, $6.9 million contract, a league source said Friday. Goodson, who also attracted interest from the Bengals, will have a chance for a significant role. The Jets lost leading rusher Shonn Greene to the Tennessee Titans, leaving a gaping hole in the backfield. The holdovers are Bilal Powell and Joe McKnight, neither of whom has experience as an every-down back. The last time the Jets went into a season without a 1,000-yard rusher on their roster was 1994. The Jets believe Goodson was one of the top sleepers in free agency. He has some big-play ability (he averaged 6.3 yards per carry last season in a small role) and he can catch the ball out of the backfield (40 receptions for the Panthers in 2010). Goodson flashed some upside in 2010. With DeAngelo Williams injured, he rotated with Jonathan Stewart and finished with 452 yards and a 4.4 average. He also had five fumbles. He was a fourth-round pick out of Texas A&M in 2009. The Panthers traded him to the Raiders in 2012 and he sat behind Darren McFadden. He didn’t see much action at all – about 10 snaps per game – primarily in a third-down role. His best moment was a 64-yard touchdown on a screen pass against the Miami Dolphins. The Jets needed to stop the bleeding after a rough start to free agency. They lost Greene, safeties LaRon Landry and Yeremiah Bell and defensive tackle Mike DeVito. They re-signed fullback Lex Hilliard, but made the most noise when signing former Jaguars quarterback David Garrard to a one-year contract.
Jets signed RB Mike Goodson, formerly of the Raiders, to a three-year, $6.9 million contract. Goodson has spent his entire four-year career buried on depth charts. He started off behind DeAngelo Williams/Jonathan Stewart in Carolina and then spent last year caddying for Darren McFadden and Marcel Reece with the Raiders. But as evidenced by Goodson's career 4.51 YPC average, he has some burst at 6'0/210. With the Jets, he'll be battling Bilal Powell and possibly a draft pick to be the top dog in a committee. Goodson can also help passing game and return kicks. It's a rare inexpensive, quality addition for the Jets.
The man had two carries last year that went for 40+ yards. That looks like Barry Sanders compared to what we had in-house last season.
You know things are really bad when we as fans think this is the greatest signing in the NFL. The board will go crazy when we sign Kolb.
Some are saying he is an upgrade to Shonn Greene, but Greene was signed for more money in Tennessee, so I don't know how Goodson is better. Still, I will take it.
He will get plenty of action. He's not a backup on this team. And if we draft a RB as well, Bilal may end up getting cut, or potentially Joe McKnight since Goodson returns kicks.
No one thinks this is the greatest signing in the NFL and everyone is excited because this guy has shown potential to be a GREAT running back.
