How do the compensatory picks factor into all of this? Say we sign Goodson, Barnes, Butler, and a safety like Pollard. Does that cancel out the players we let go?
I was responding in your thread before it was locked, it's no big deal, I just was point out what should be done. For the most part the mods are easy going around here. No hard feelings from my end.
Somewhat. I there is something about how it works on Wikipedia, but it's a bit complicated to follow.
It's not a reliable source for player signings, but for the most part general info from there is ok. Then again, your just being a smartass so why bother trying to explain the difference to you.
Which makes the new format even better for people like you. Now, you don't have to read stuff you may have already read or can quickly find a topic you wanted to discuss that you already read on those sources. Think about it. Makes sense to me.
Do you have stats to back up your claim that Wikipedia is not a reliable source for player signings.? Try bothering to explain it to this smartass if you have the time.
FYI, anyone can go in and write whatever they want in Wikipedia. When the talks of the Revis trade began, someone went on Wikipedia and wrote that he had signed a contract with that person's favorite team. I can literally go in there right now and say Tom Brady plays for the New York Jets. Try it LOL
I rather get updates here. I haven't been on ESPN.com or NFL.com for a good while now. I like the new format.
technically wikipedia isnt a reliable source for anything. average time to change something is like 20 minutes i read once, that means that for any number of minutes one could read wrong or made up information on any given page. its great to get a quick overview, and there is a lot of good info on it, but if it doesnt cite a trusted source, id be weary... the point: wikipedia should never be your only source
Agree. In this case this guy gets dumped on for using a twitter response from the Goodson's brother and there happens to be another comment on Wikipedia that Goodson is a Jet. Granted the brother could have been the one to put it on Wikipedia but it is interesting that we have a twitter response plus another source albeit "unreliable". The comment was made / implied that this site doesn't rely on twitter as a source?? Are you serious? This site is strewn with many threads that have a twitter reply as a source of what is happening and nobody says boo and is accepted.,There have been even more "reliable" sources that have been wrong - remember how Holmes didn't want to restructure his contract but then he did ? How about Brady Quinn to the Jets - you guys spent days bashing Quinn over that accepted source. I haven't heard anything recently about Quinn in the mix recently. So am I to assume that any twitter response from anyone is not worthy of a thread for discussion? I think this was an interesting find by this poster and if this signing is officially confirmed then maybe just maybe a twitter response from a player's brother plus Wiki equals out scooping the "official" announcement.
Agree. Come here for the consolidation of Jets news, comedy and the interesting connect the dots conjectures.
How was there a huge argument on the new format yet this abortion of a thread title has lasted throughout the whole thing?
I think the biggest problem with twitter is there is no way to verify who actually sent out the tweet unless we know it is a reliable account like Shefter or Manish. The guy's brother could be a bullshit story. Now in defense of the OP maybe his brother knows that Goodson is going to sign with the Jets and they just need to figure out the finr print and this is a preemptive congratulations. I couldn't even imagine how bad things would have been if Twitter was around when Antoine Winfield was close to becoming a Jet.
Understood. I don't do twitter. Don't people have an account or hx of tweets that you have to tap into or can you just send out a random message without context? I hear what your saying - I'm not saying this is fact - I just found it to be an interesting find and to me it is what it is and people don't have to call for dumps, etc. I know if I was to sign with a team family would be the first to know .
I hope we do sign this guy..a couple of years ago in Carolina he caught 40 passes playing in a limited role and if Sanshit is still going to be our QB we need somebody who can catch his three yard bombs.
Wikipedia, which can be edited by anyone, is not considered a creditable news source. If you don't understand that there is no helping you here. It's really not all that hard to figured out why. If you want an example, the first time I looked up Miles Davis on the site the word nigger was used throughout the article. So if that's the site you want to trust with your breaking news go for it. I prefer my scum reporters to simply call kids druggies when they don't know there is an open mic nearby like Cimini does. Wile the word of twitter is fun for rumors, I prefer an official source before I believe the news.
