Agreed on Bell. Letting him go by itself was perhaps not so bad. Letting him go along with both E Smith and Landry was bad. Of the three he seemed to have the best price performance ratio. Now they need to replace the three safeties who pretty much played all last season. I don't get the thinking on letting Bell go.

On the DL losses, I do not count myself a big Ellis fan. He's had some injuries, and is not a consistent and dependable player. While the Jets are viewed as a 3-4 base D team, the weakness at LB and the fact that many 4-3 sets have been used the last few years means the Jets' backup at DT (Btw I apologize for the brain fart in typing DE when i meant DT) is an important backup. In short I think the Jets are two important pieces short on the DL right now. Harrison? Really?

I highly doubt Slauson comes back. The Jets quite simply treated him unfairly last year, and he's an FA. He's not much more than mediocre anyway.

I don't count any of hte LB positions as the ten holes that will need filling over this year and next, because as bad as the situation is at LB, at least they have some warm bodies they can put out there. Davis had better step up, and MacIntyre, who showed some promise last year, needs to play with more consistency. Mauga? He will see playing time as well, and better make the most of it. Yes, Harris is overpaid and overrated, but that doesn't mean he's something other than one of the few starters who we don't have to focus on in this discussion.

And I still am afraid there will be too many holes to fill over two drafts, and clearly not this one.

I hate hate hate this kind of post. As if getting rid of Revis gets the Jets an elite Qb and pass rusher.

And picking out one game to show that a key player is not really important over the course of a season is bad logic.

We have a better chance of seeing god.

Correct, but you can pretty much rebuild the OL in one fell swoop with a Warmack/Jones tandem, then fill as many other holes as you can (rd's 3-7 and FA) in preparation for the impact picks (QB, etc.) in 2014.

BB, I know I'm beating a dead horse but all the more reason to begin the repair job by grabbing the quality, low-risk pick esp. when they're of such quality--and who have excelled against the very best competition at that level. I normally wouldn't use high picks for interior OL, but given the task ahead and again, considering the quality available, well, fwiw....

As for the draft, of course nobody bats 1.000. At the same time, nothing ventured, nothing gained.

I'm talking about my preference in a defense and offense. It had nothing to do with the Revis trade. We are well on our way towards getting a QB (Bridgewater) or Pass-rusher (Clowney) the way things are going.

Bad logic? How about you having bad comprehension? And there are plenty of other games I could use as an example. After that AFCCG, defenses began figuring us out. There's a reason why you never saw a repeat performance of that defense in 2009. The next season we were up and down and teams saw flaws in our defense. Statistically we were good, but when Colt McCoy almost beats you, you have a problem. Hell Chad Henne had a 300 yard performance that season.

Defenses didn't begin to figure us out we unloaded a very good cover safety who was a little soft in run D for a slug. The reason we made a run in 2010 is we moved Lowery to safety during the playoffs. We couldn't cover and blitz in 2010 we weren't figured out.

What are you talking about? We don't have a starting RB, no Safeties, and major holes in the O-line. How the hell are we going to be able to draft a pass rusher and QB?

Our problem was not bad coaching and a revolving door at WR, it was lack of talent.

Hey well that's on the personnel, the Jets all-out blitz did not work well after the Colts game. Teams knew they could win throwing at the TEs and #3 and #4 WRs.

Yeah, that's our issue now, it's time to address that via the draft. That's all I'm saying. Going forward as well. Was never a big fan of spending a lot of money in FA.

We had awful coaching on offense let's be serious. Tanny made some bad decisions after the 2010 Steelers AFCCG. I agree about the lack of talent - so we have to retool the team. Now we got the coaching, now we got the GM. Time to get some young players

Not sure if we were on the same page.

The Jets rarely blitzed in 2010 but they weren't figured out. They gave up over 21 points only 3 times all year. 23 to MIA in a NYJ win, 27 to HOU in a NYJ win, 34 to the Bears in a loss.

    They also gave up:
    10
    14
    14
    20
    20
    9
    20
    20
    10
    45
    10
    17
    7
    16
    21
    17

    They were great in 2010.

Nah, strickland got hurt so Drew Coleman had to come in. Drew Coleman was inches away from stopping Peyton from scoring in the last two minutes of the 1st half. That was a momentum changer

Hard to imagine that Bress and Shawn Payton along with Rivers and Norv Turner couldn't figure that out before Manning showed them the way.

    It's always on personal.

If they were great, how come we couldn't stop Mendenhall and couldn't stop Big Ben on 3rd down? I had an issue with 3rd down defense that year. Great, but not elite like in 2009. It was a drop-off. Not to say the defense wasn't good enough to win it all, it def was

We got somewhat exposed, I mean we had a good D, I'm complaining about it. It just wasn't as good as 2009. Personnel does play a role, you are right though.

I assume you are talking game three of the 2010 season. Henne actually had 363 yards that day. Yeah, that was pretty awful. Only problem with your analysis is that was the game after Revis got hurt coming back from the hold out, and he did not play that Miami game. So how does him not being in there show that Revis could not stop even a bad Qb like Henne?

You might want to take a few days off after a cred hit like this one.

Last time I checked we still had Cromartie and we still got lit up by Henne. Again small examples. How about Cutler schooling the defense against the Bears? Colt McCoy and Matthew Stafford before he got hurt?

I really don't care what you think about my credibility. I could say the same about yourself.

Pass rushers are always more valuable. Hence my preference. Revis is great we all know that but what was our win average with him healthy?

For the most part, I'm on board with what our GM is doing and I like the fact that so many heads are rolling after ONE losing season.
The only two guys I really regret losing are Bell and Devito. I think they could have been productive parts of a rebuilt defense, but I'm not shedding any tears either. Losing Revis will make me weep, and it took me a while to accept it, but I do understand the logic behind it.

The rest of these 6-10 losers can ride into the sunset. It's not like we're breaking up a Super Bowl team.

Dude, give it a rest. When you are in a hole and want to get out, you don't keep digging deeper.

And perhaps you don't care what I think of your cred, but you should care about your cred. Otherwise why should anyone read your posts?

You referred to Henne as an example of how having Revis on the team did not prevent Henne from running up that yardage total. Ooops.

    Give it a rest.

Obviously you care because you always quote my posts. Same guy that thinks Schottenheimer was a good OC. Credibility? Pleaseee.

I post here because I love my team, not to get your approval. Henne was simply an example. I i just mentioned other QBs that had success against the Jets. We had to have your boy Muck come in and make plays to win. Here's some advice don't read my posts. There are plenty of other posters here that I enjoy having discussions with

Give it a rest buddy it's been a long day

So were we a great D or a D that was figured out and exposed? My understand of exposed/figured out is that teams are picking us apart left and right which wasn't the case. If you want to say the D had it's problems, wasn't elite, but good enough to win it all I agree. I just think I have a different meaning of exposed than you. Mine has more of negative connotation. That's the confusion :)

In 2009 the Jets were a great D based on the scheme and one player who made the scheme work. The scheme was figured out by Peyton Manning and Tom Moore in the AFC Championship Game and that's all she wrote.

Every defense the Jets have had since then has been good based on the scheme and the scheme has been smoke and mirrors arrayed in a constantly shifting pattern that nobody has been able to figure out well. The reason the defense had issues last year was you can't use smoke and mirrors against the run, it just doesn't work.

If Rex Ryan leaves the Jets defense is instantly going to drop into the bottom third of the NFL. That's the talent level they have out there. Add Rex to that and they're in the top half and maybe the top 10 next year.

2009 hands down the best. 2010 different but a good D. I didn't enjoy the fact that in crucial moments mainly 3rd down we couldn't get off the field.

At the most crucial moments I felt we got out hustled. Colts and Steelers game specifically. I should of been more descriptive lol my bad. That 2010 D left a really sour taste in my mouth.

Exposed was the wrong term I can agree with that. Inconsistent would be a better term.
