Yes, but will they offer him that money before they can see if he's fully recovered? As of early February it was reported he still needed the rods removed from his foot. I think teams will want to see him be able to pass a physical before offering him the money.

If he gets the deal I June, that's when we would see the addition cap relief. Unless a team is silly enough to sign him while he is still rehabbing it does not help us now.

According to schefter he has restructured.... Such a malcontent!

Holmes will have a good year in this scheme

I expect that Holmes will be a really cheap date in 2013 if he gets released by the Jets.

Nobody is going to pay him more than $7.5M for the season and any amount under that figure just gets refunded to the Jets under the offset provision. So he probably goes to play for vet minimum somewhere with the understanding that he's rehabbing the foot and may not be available at the start of the year.

He uses the year to rehab his foot and his image and is then a free agent again in 2014.

That's how I would see it going down.

Nobody is going to pay him $3M on their cap when he's not going to see any of that money. There's no incentive for him to take more than vet minimum either, because he's already got all the money he's going to have for the season from the Jets and he wants to be able to pick his spot.

Good stuff, he had to do it because he would of looked really bad in the eyes of the public. As well as with other NFL teams

Forget about the public. He had to do it for the money. You can make 9 mil for the Jets or 7.5 for someone else. It's a no brainer.

*Note, I have no idea if the final number was 9 mil. Just as an example.

Well, that is surprising. I think maybe he's been reassured by the competition

Yea I really don't think it had anything to do with what the perception would be. It's straight forward numbers.

Funny the jets blog "source" was wrong again. Either that or Idzik called him up to cut him and he changed his mind.

This isn't completely relevant, but if Holmes is healthy, I foresee Hill having a much improved year. He needs someone to take the attention away from him (so he can focus on catching).

Holmes + Hill + Kerley isn't that bad. If we re-sign Edwards, we won't need to draft a wr this year.

I think with those four, this is the perfect year to daft a wideout. No pressure to come in and be the guy, he'd just have to come in and be a part of the unit.

Good on Holmes. Maybe now Idzik has some $$$ to spend on Landry and Victor Butler.

Very happy to see Holmes agrees to restructuring. Looking forward to see the numbers Idzik pulled off.

Good enough. Let that malcontent prove he still wants to be in the league. Now the Jets can focus on other positions in the draft.

    OL, OLB and RB

Yeah, but do you really think Sanchez has grown an arm in the offseason? He couldn't complete 10 yard passes for the last two years and in some cases couldn't even throw them within 3 yards of his receiver...oh, wait I see you think Garrard will be the starter, right?

Great point. Also doesn't hurt that the WR class is loaded this year. There will be guys there in rounds 2-4 that might just be too good to pass on, particularly if we end up with additional picks via trade.
