If their offer is around 4 mill a year you can bet your ass he'll be in another uniform next year. Weaker may not be a red zone target or a sexy outside burner, but he moves the chains for that team. He and Brady are on the same page all the time when it comes to routes and timing. I would center if the offers are around the same price as New England he will go back, but if someone beats them by a good chunk he is gone, and that is good news for jet fans.
The story sounds about right, just not the money. They offered alot more than that last year. I will look for the number but I believe is was i the $8mil per season range for 3 years.
I'll bet you the money is closer to my end than yours. Welker's not going to get more than $6M a year on the open market and probably not that. He's a 32 year old WR and he can't bring Brady with him to the new team.
the pats have julian eldeman to take hiw place. before his hand injury eldeman was getting consistant looks
I was a year off, but the Pats were very willing to offer Welker $8mil per year for two years guaranteed. I have more than one story on it. http://www.boston.com/sports/footba...elker_fail_to_settle_on_a_long_term_contract/ As the Globe reported last week, one of the major sticking points between the sides was a third year for Welker. New England was willing to do a two-year contract — and, in fact, had offered Welker a fully guaranteed, two-year, $16 million deal during the 2011 season, which was rejected. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.co...atriots-upset-with-wes-welkers-contract-talk/ Welker aired his grievances about the way negotiations were (or weren’t, depending on your point of view) progressing with the Patriots on a new contract. Welker said that the team has dropped their offer from two years and $16 million, a revelation that isn’t sitting well with the team. This is the reason I haven't been too hard on the team about this. I thought the offer was fair.
Would like to point out that Welker became a Patriot before the 07-08 season. So he's been with them for 6 years, not 8.
"Pats offer to Welker 'laughable'" http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nfl-s...triots-laughable-contract-172240312--nfl.html
Awesome. Hope he moves on and the other players take note of how the organization rewards performance.
