Moore, once touted as a top 5 (and even top 3) draft prospect, has fallen after a bad combine. In my opinion, he will be available for the Jets to draft at the 9. He is very young (just 20), has really long arms, is a disruptive edge player with exceptional first-step quickness and burst. Moore amassed 12.5 sacks and 21 tackles for a loss during his final season. IMO, he's the best prospect who will likely fall into our laps. Is there any reason not to draft him at the 9th pick?
I wouldnt touch him... He tested bad at the combine with the forty and drills and some of the teams that interview him said he is immature.
I'm usually inclined to look more at the quality of play in actual games than the combine numbers, but a 4.95 40 yard dash and 12 reps on the bench press have to have you somewhat concerned. That's guard speed with punter strength.
wait until his pro day before you judge him. he tweaked his hamstring on his first 40 attempt, then fully pulled it on his second. I woudn't look too much into those times.
Didnt he get hurt while running his 40? I think we'll get a better idea after his pro day, he'll have a lot to prove.
yeah he did really bad at his combine, but i knows because of his hammy. but regardless. the 4 or whatever bench reps he did was inexcusable. right now i wouldnt draft him, id have to wait how he sees at his pro day. i usually put 0 stock into the combine, but this guy did REALLY bad
I have Jordan being picked earlier, but if he isn't I think it would still be a tough call given Rex's system
The combine is only part of the whole picture, watch his game day tape, he is not the weak player the combine made him out to be. There is no perfect player, I normally don't quote Herman Edwards, but he said on ESPN, if character was a real issue to judge NFL players on, half of them would not be eligible to play.
This. It is a red flag, but only a temporary red flag. His production is great, but 12 reps at 225 does not bode well for shedding linemen or generating power on the next level, combining that with 4.95 speed. He probably has the biggest pro day of anyone. Right now, I wouldn't take him at 9, but if he shows improvement at his pro day, I might be willing to forget. The more I think about him, the less appealing a prospect he gets, but a good pro day Friday would help change the perception.
Well, I've been re watching Moore lately. If your the type of person who is going to discount Te'o for his game against Bama then watch the film of him against them. He is basically invisible the entire game and his only sack came when he is unblocked on a naked bootleg. Much like TE'o he is dominated by thier line all day long.
Bama's line may have been better than several NFL lines this year. That said, you would have liked to seen a lot more out of Moore against them. His run D was atrocious that game.
1. Looks like he cannot shed the blocker. 2. I saw a few blatant holds (I think two) against him, but that doesn't excuse such outing. 3. That said, Alabama made sure Moore was not a factor. I saw him doubled during passing downs a lot (a), and when he was one-on-one, usually RB or TE was chipping at him (b). Last, but not the least, runs were usually away from where he was (c). When they did run at him, that was when Moore was in two-point stance. When he had his hands on the dirt, run was usually away from him. So, all in all, while Moore did not have his A+ outing during that game, you cannot discount how Alabama did their best to make Moore ineffective either. To me, he looked like a low 1st round/high 2nd round pick prospect.
I saw the video and your assessment is spot on, I also saw the Jarvis Jones video against the Tide and if anyone scares me is Jarvis jones, he looked like Aaron maybin, one dimensional and he did very little against the run. I have to watch more video of the other guys to see how I feel about them but I would put Moore over Jones right now. JMO
2013 jets draft For this year's draft to be successful we have to get Rex out of the room unless we're taking a defensive lineman. He's been the Head Coach for 4 drafts - 2009 thru 2012. During that period we have drafted one player, Mo Wilkerson, who is better than an NFL average starter. Possibly Coples could get into that category with improvement in 2013. All the rest - Sanchez, Greene, Slauson, McKnight, K. Wilson, B. Powell, Kerley, Ducasse, K. Ellis, S. Hill, D. Davis, A. Allen, & J. White - do not have a ceiling higher than an average starting player at their position in the NFL. Contrast that with 3 years of drafts when Mangini was the Head Coach (2006 thru 2008): Revis, Ferguson, Mangold, B. Smith, Leon Washington, Harris & Keller. Seven better-than-average (really All-Pro) starters in 3 drafts vs one in the last 4! Here we go with Rex again. We have a new college scouting director, Jeff Bauer + GM Idzik. Hopefully, they won't be listening to Rex.
What are your thoughts on Bjoern Werner? He is another guy that was being mocked to in the Top 3 picks pre combine, but now seems to have dropped.
I like Werner, do your self a favor, watch these guys on YouTube against some of the better offensive lines in college football, you can determine their ability by looking at their technique, use of their hands, stringing the outside run plays and allowing the gap to be covered by other LBs, you know all of the little things that they have to learn about the positions they play. That's why I like Werner, Moore and Ansah, watch Ansah against Notre Dame and you will see what I'm talking about. When i look at these guys, to me Its more than a guy who has speed who tries to run around the Oline all the time with the same move.
