Jason from nyjetscap.com has all the teams covered now. http://www.overthecap.com/teamcap.php?Team=Broncos&Year=2013
First off you guys are crazy saying we would only get a second round pick for revis. He is THE most sought after player this offseason. He is the best defensive player in the game and opens up so much for a defense to do. There are going to be tons of teams interested in his services and multiple teams willing to sign him to a big contract. The market will dictate his price but that price will be much better than what we think, there will be a bidding war whether it be now or if we have to wait until revis can prove he's healthy during the season. And so far we have played this perfectly. We released that we were thinking about trading him but have not sold out completely keeping our leverage. This bidding war will heat up sooner or later. If its after the draft so be it, we need a quarterback anyway and future picks will go a long way. If its during next season so be it. And for those of you saying revis will fake an injury next season your crazy again. People are already worried about his health and you think he's going to fake an injury in his contract year, no way! Leverage will come our way we just have to be patient with this. In the end a team will budge and the thought of adding the one of the best corners of all time will outweigh all other risks.
I agree completely. No way a team gets Revis without giving up a 1st and an additional pick. Probably a 1st and 3rd. A late round team like SF or Atlanta who will try to win this year should do it imo.
OK... I understand that he is a great player. I understand it sucks... ...but if the Jets are unwilling to pay him what he wants, what makes you think other teams are going to be lining up to pony up a huge draft package AND give him the money the Jets won't? All they have to do is wait till NEXT year and they get to keep all the picks. There is a reason the Jets won't do it. That is WAY, WAY too much money to spend on ONE CB. The Jets are only doing this because they know they'll lose him next year and get only a comp 3rd 2 years from now. The teams that are actively looking at this are teams that are looking at this as a 1 year rental...and no sane team is going to pony up a big package of picks for a 1 year rental player. It just won't happen. If his contract wasn't an issue, Revis would be worth MUCH, MUCH more than a 2nd round pick. The contract IS an issue though. If I'm wrong I'll come back here and eat crow. If you think they are going to end up with this treasure of draft picks for him, you are setting yourself up for disappointment.
The jets are smarter than just taking the first deal that comes along. Once the market starts heating up before the draft they will allow teams to negotiate with revis on contracts. Then the market will dictate his price. By this time the jets will make it clear they want to trade him and it will be clear that multiple teams are interested. At this time revis will be told wether his demands are valid or if he needs to take less than what he expects. Then revis will come to realize he will not be a jet and whether his demands are valid or not. He will either lower his contract or wait until the season starts to prove the knee is not an issue. Either way we wait. If a deal comes along we like we take it. If not we let revis prove he is worth what he says he is and get the proper compensation later on. The right thing is to be patient and allow the market to dictate the price and if we are happy take it. If not we let revis prove he is worth what he says and we allow him to dictate the market. Hell if he shows he can't come back from injury right away we might even be able to sign him at cheaper than we thought. The key is as a fan base and for idzik is to be patient, leverage will eventually come our way any way you look at it.
I think teams will offer less than the Jets want, he'll end up staying and proving his knee is fine and then hit free agency in 2014. The Jets get a comp 3rd round pick in 2015.
If he proves his knee is fine, I hope we would make it plan A to sign him next year as we will have more cap space and the cap is going to increase a lot due to t.v. money coming by the following offseason
Not sure if you are some 49er psychic, but I see no reason why they wouldn't at least consider their 1st and the 3rd they got from carolina, or the KC pick and their own 2nd for a player like revis who could put them over the top. 1st- 31 2nd- 2 (From KC) 2nd- 12 2nd- 29 3rd- 12 (from CAR) 3rd- 31 4th- 31 5th- 24 (from IND) 5th- 31 6th- 12 (from MIA) 6th- 31 7th-21 (from CIN) 7th- 31
SF would be foolish to not do a trade like that. He would instantly make them the best team in the NFL. If they didnt win the SB I would be shocked. With odds like that, its worth it. All that matters is winning SBs. If giving up a few picks that could turn into AJ Jenkins, its a no-brainer for them. They look to have the cap space also. With contracts like Alex Smith gone, and the ability to save 10+ million from Carlos Rodgers and Frank Gore in 2014, they look like they are set up pretty well. They could essentially flip Alex Smith and a late first or 2nd for the best CB in the NFL. If they had Revis in the SB they win.
Jim Harbaugh even said that 14+ draft picks will not make the team. They have a ton of depth and dont need a buttload of rookies to come in. They simply wont make the team. Consolidating picks is most likely what they'll do, and what better way to do it that get the best defensive player in the NFL? It probably wont happen, it just makes too much sense.
What did Washington give up last year just to move up 4 spots in the draft? In a bidding war, expect the unexpected.
Possibly get a third round compensatory pick, but not necessarily. And don't forget that it's an untraceable pick that is really a fourth rounder.
I think this is unrealistic. I think if the Vikings offered Harvin for Revis, the Jets would take it. They might get a mid- to late-round pick thrown in, but I doubt they'd get more than that. If you're convinced a QB is a franchise guy, it's nearly impossible to pay. Totally different situation.
I think they should hold on to him till the middle of next season, then trade him, you'll get to see if he's healthy and this year's draft doesn't have many great players. If healthy we get the picks we want and next year's draft is going to be better than this year's. He's under contract for next year and he's not going to ask for any less money for his upcoming contract.
I've been thinking. Do you guys think that Cromartie is the more valuable CB to trade away right now? Consider he just had a Pro Bowl season, proved he is a shut down corner and has a friendly contract for teams to consider. Perhaps SF would trade the 2nd they got from KC(34) and another late rounder for him. Trading Revis or Cro would promote Wilson to starting CB so we would just need to find a CB FA or rookie to plug in for this year. We would get to keep our BEST player(keep fans happy), be able to pay him the money he wants(Revis $+ Cro $) , get few picks to help team. The question is, how much can we get for Cro?
