If we trade Revis it will cost the Jets $3 Million saving $6 Million in 2013, and $9 Million in 2014 when there is some cap relieve. In addition, the 49ers could sign him to a deal, and the Jets could press the issue to making Revis pay back the signing bonus in a trade.

Each team is able to designate 2 players as post June 1 players

They can't trade him until he passes a physical.

I'm hoping for an NFC bidding war to emerge.

Someone needs to lead them to this site. Many people seem to know what their talking about when it comes to scouting.

Maybe the problem hasn't been with the scouting dept but the guy pulling the strings. The scouting dept doesn't actually draft the players after all. Just playing devil's advocate.

The 49ers are not going to take a 1 year rental deal for a player coming off ACL injury. This isn't like the Deion deals, where Sanders was physically sound. There are 2 parts to the Revis deal. Part 1 is the most easiest one, find a suitor who will give us picks. That will be the 49ers. Next part is signing him long term. This is something I do not think the 49ers will be able to do. They have to look at their own guys first, Gholdson who they don't really want to let go of, as well as next season: Kaepernick and Justin Smith will need new deals. Much of that money will have to go to Kaepernick if he plays well this season. Revis is going to command a big deal and I do not see the 49ers committing that much into a player they are unsure of for just 1 year.

This being the same scouting dept that picked Revis to begin with?

Yes but the 49ers have set themselves up better than the Jets, I don't think they will give Justin Smith a new deal, he will likely become a FA when he is done, plus they will be able to take Carlos Rogers heavy contract off the books in 2014 with Revis signed long term. There really is no reason they can't sign Revis if they want and it seems a bit like a match made in heaven. I mean honestly besides the injury there is no risk to this guy unlike so many other high profile diva players.

I don't mind the trade to the 49ers at least we won't play them for another 4years unless in the Super Bowl

Revis, is the best player on the Jets by far, even injured. We should get damn good value out of #24. Ok Kyle, time to be a star. Coples and Wilk beast on the pass rush. Sad to say goodbye to Revis, but lets see what his star power can do to help us.

"Revis, saves" "Revis, saves" "Revis, saves"

    Fuck you Holmes.

If the 49'er are willing to part with multiple DP's for Revis, this could turn out real well for the Jets in the long haul. We would really start to restock the roster, dump salary, suck for perhaps a few years and stockpile even more high talented young players thru the draft.

ESPN's Chris Mortensen said a source told him the 49ers are not inclined to pursue Darrelle Revis at this time. So there's that.

This is pathetic. What a classless joke of an organization we have become. Our business is all in the street, and like him or not, this is not fair to our best player and not how you handle things. don't think other players don't see this too...sad for me to see how it has all unravelled. mostly not the fault of this new regime, but still not happy with the way idzik is handling it all...and we still have the same clown of an owner

What has Idzik done wrong??? This whole thread is based upon the 49ers having interest, nothing about the Jets reaching out to them.

As for "this is not fair to our best player"... how about when he held out two times in his career? Only looking out for #1 and nobody else? Or the fact that he is rumored to want a contract like Mario's, which would cripple this team from a cap standpoint?

They have set themselves up with personnel yes. Cap wise, you can't sign every player in the league. Justin Smith will most definitely get a new contract if he stays healthy. It won't be a major deal, but he is staying. 49ers already know how bad they were without him. Rogers will come off the book but will be replaced by Revis at a much higher rate.

Then they have players who will be becoming FA and will be looking for new deals:

    Dashon Gholdson (now)
    Chris Culliver
    Donte Whitner
    Vernon Davis
    Anthony Davis
    Mike Lupati
    Michael Crabtree
    Collin Kaepernick

You cannot expect to sign Revis and keep your entire defensive unit. They also have players getting old who they need to replace.

This isn't Madden. Something will have to give. Whether they decide to stock up the defensive end and be weak on offense - who knows.

Source tells @mortreport the 49ers not inclined to pursue Revis right now. Plenty of ammo to jump in later, but cap space a concern. #Jets

the media has just become so obsessed with getting the 'scoop' first that they dont give a shit about accuracy or any other of that stuff that journalism used to care about. if it gets them a click, then its good news that they will report...

I disagree. The 49ers (or any other team) can evaluate the prognosis and make a decision on when he could be ready. It is an ACL injury, and players come back from them every year. Even if they did wait till he passed a physical, there is no guarantee that he will be the player of old.

It is possible the Jets trade Revis during the season, like his first couple games would be an audition. Say the Jets start 0-5, I think Revis is traded.

    This makes sense.

    ...on someone elses comment.

I'm not upset with the handling of this. The media is enamored with the NY Jets. It's actually kind of cray just how much they love us. We are a circus.
