By my optimism, not long enough. It's not like Brady discovered the fountain of youth or something to make him play like he's 20. His skills are slowly declining. I wouldn't be surprised if they end up 11-5 and out in the divisional round. Our time is coming soon enough, just wait.
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/nf...-new-england-patriots-contract/?sct=hp_t11_a3 "The Patriots can do this by guaranteeing his salaries for the next three and giving him much of the money in a chunk of a bonus right now. That, the source with knowledge of the contract said, is what the Patriots intend to do." So basically Brady gets more guaranteed money (smart move) and the Pats cap gets lowered. Win/win for him. Would be kind of funny if Welker doesn't see a dime of this extra money and the Pats still lowball him
Ebb and flow...ebb and flow. Within the next five years, Rex will be flowing to a Superbowl title. You all can try to win one in ten years.:breakdance:
brady took such a small contract, god damn. He litteraly is taking less than half his worth. The Pats can now sign the biggest wr on the market in the coming years.
It really takes a lot of effort to see bad in what Brady did today. I wouldn't be surprised if they were one and done, as PO games can be so tough to win, but wouldn't be surprised if they won the SB either. As a Pats fan since 1983, these are heady times. A lot of us who's been with the team pre-Brady (or even pre-Bledsoe) aren't taking it for granted.
Maybe, I just think those who feel its Rexs last year as a Jet and then he would become the Pats DC is a bit far fetched but hey you may be right
He's probably taking exactly his worth at this point and getting a lot of it upfront. His really high cap number was going to become a heavy incentive for the Pats to move on over the next year or two. He just removed that incentive.
It's rare for an NFL contract for a star player to really be a win-win scenario for that player and his team, but this is exactly what that is. Brady gets something ridiculous like $60M guaranteed through the life of the deal and the Patriots have an elite QB in the homestretch of his career with a cap-friendly contract. I think this all but guarantees that Welker and Volmer will be back. Talib also, unless there's someone they'd rather go after in free agency.
