I couldn't find a link to this on the forum, so sorry if its a repost. http://espn.go.com/espnradio/play?id=8906743 But Matt Hasselbeck was on The Michael Kay Show on ESPN on 2/1, and at one point he had some interesting things to say about the Jets offense around the 7:45 mark Basically, as the scout-team QB, his job during the week of practice leading up to a game is to emulate the upcoming opponent's QB and offense. These are some of his comments about when he was practicing the Jets' offense and Mark Sanchez. "I don't know enough about what they're doing there, but I can only say this... When i was running the Jets scout team, we didn't have a great week of practice. We weren't that successful." The gist of this very brief conversation was that the Jet's offensive scheme was awful (that's me putting words in their mouths)
I think we can all agree on that, the Jets were just pathetic last season. Hopefully with a new OC in here, we can hopefully begin to look like a real NFL offense.
what he mean is that the scout team was not good at recovering fumbles or running down DBs going for 6
Does what Matt Hassleback says about the Jets even matter???can we just put the 2012 season and the joke that it was in so many ways behind us already
Yea but that was diffrent it was funny, We have a new O-Coordinator 10 other new coaches a new gm, so lets just see what the offense looks like next year

BTW... A player running into his own player happens so often, the f'in media blew that play way out of proportion. This is the funniest and to me: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eY26rgd4aps
The SF clip from the '11 title game happened TWICE in that game, 2 times Eli threw it up for grabs and was saved b/c 2 SF DBs collided to know the ball from each other.
That's why Rex should have been fired. That is also why we had such a hard time getting a GM to come here. Face it, we are in the shit.
We really can't do that because in order to fix a problem, we have to take a long, hard look at the problem from as many viable sources as we have available. We just can't attibute every negative thing said about the Jets offense to "hate" or dismiss it as old news. It would be foolish to ignore what really caused the Jet Offense to go off the rails last year and even with a new OC, we damn well better look long and hard at how we approach offense unless we want to repeat the ineptitude that was the 2012 season on offense. Our prep obviously was lacking no matter what Rex and the Players said to the media. The entire "we had a great practice but WTF happened to us" just isn't good enough anymore. Until this franchise is willing to take a really hard, emotionally detached look at it's approach to the game, we're not gonna improve no matter how much we might want to sugarcoat or scapegoat the real problems this team has at present.
I feel Sparano was worse then people think. He was totally inept to playcalling being that he never called a play as a OC in his entire life. Mix that in with a little Tebow and zero playmakers and there you have it the worst offense in the league. Look at the two losing years we had the 8-8 compared to the 6-10. The offense wasnt horrible the 8-8 year and Sanchez stats wise had his best year. Now Mornhinweg comes in with a record as a head coach of 5-27 but he has more experience calling plays then Sparano. He had some good years in Philly Andy Reid gave him full playcalling dutys in the 06 playoffs witch is not like a coach to always do. With that said i still have my doubts about him but hopefully he can put something together good enough to compete atleast. This is basically MM's creds head n shoulders above Shotty n Sparano 2004-present: Assistant Head Coach/Offensive Coordinator, Philadelphia Eagles 2003: Senior Assistant, Philadelphia Eagles 2001-02: Head Coach, Detroit Lions 1997-00: OC/QBs, San Francisco 49ers 1996: QBs, Green Bay Packers 1995: Offensive Asst/Quality Control, Green Bay Packers 1994: OC, Northern Arizona 1991-93: Tight Ends/Offensive Line, Missouri 1989-90: OC/QBs, SE Missouri State 1988: Running Backs, Northern Arizona 1987: Quarterback (player), Denver Dynamite (AFL) 1986-87: Grad Asst, UTEP 1985: Receivers, Montana
the question becomes.. Can MM fix the systemic problems that plague the Jets offense. He can have some impact on the roster but that comes under Idzik's control as to who we can afford, BPA's and so forth. MM is only the OC and it will take time for him to get the players for his new system, teach those players the system, and then run the system effectively. His w/l record doesn't scream HC material but instead, a OC that needs a win in NY to keep his career moving forwards considering how things ended in Philly. To do that, MM will have to overhaul the entire offensive philosphy and thought processes of the Jet offense and Rex Ryan's idea of what a offense should look like as well to turn this around in short order. Practices have to be different. Preperations has to be different. In fact, NOTHING should be carried over offensively from 2012 regarding the approach to the offense. New Coach, New System, New Outlook, New Approach. Success isn't coming overnight, but it will be a upgrade over what we've seen in 2012. At least I hope so..
