Man, it's been too long! I'm SO FREAKING STOKED!! I would ask you all to be repectful of the board and of each other today. I know that emotions run high around here on gameday, and I hope that any hostile emotions remain on the other side of your keyboards. Now, on to the Jets. Todays game is a great opener. A weak, non-divisional opponent on the road is a perfect opener, IMO. This is a very winnable game for the Jets, and a win to start things off would do great things for the teams psyche. They've read all the 4-12 predictions, and that can take it's toll on a team. To win today, we need big showings from a few people. Chad Pennington has to manage the game properly. He doesn't have the firepower to take them on in a shootout, so he has to use his leadership and game management skills to beat the TN defense, which isn't all that good. Also on offense, Chris Baker, it's time for you to step up and be the man that some people believe you can be. On defense, Ellis, Barton, and Vilma need to show up bigtime. Barton and Vilma I'm not worried about, but Ellis I am starting to worry about. He has to play big every week, and he has to establish that today. He was given a huge contract, and he now must become the pro bowl player he's being paid as. He had a big year as a rookie as a 3-4 DE, so here's to hoping he does it again. And on a personal note, I have to say I am excited about seeing a little of Vince Young today. I just love his leadership and raw athletic talent, and I have a strong feeling that he'll be one of those players like Favre or Sanders that are just a blast to watch play. Enjoy the day, everyone, and if you are going out to watch the game, please be safe.
YAY! I really want to see Brian Schottenheimer step it up today with some good play calling. You think well see Vince in today?
agree abot schott, and yes we'll see vince, even if only for a few series and so the commentators can give the obligatory "former longhorn looking for some payback" comment and you know the buckeye comment about nugent will follow
Football is finally here. I'll drink to that. The Jet we need to have a huge year is D Rob! In a 3-4 it starts and ends with the NT.
I hope everyone here enjoys the game. I've got church in the morning and then I'm going to a sports bar. Of course, in the midwest, I could stay home and watch Herm debut with KC! Not gonna happen.
I can't wait. I go to the U and on campus they have a student restaurant-turned-sports-bar on Sundays and I love watching the Jet games with my fellow fans.
This is always the best time of the year. We have the house ready for our annual Kickoff Classic party and the weather is perfect. Enjoy the game today, GGers. Let the games begin!
Here we go. In my area ( Allentown Pa. ) The Jets are on T.V. on channel 3. No sports bar for me, They are full of drunk Eagle fans making assholes of themselves. The fridge is fulla beer, the wife knows enough to stay out of the rec room while the Jets are on, man I hope Penny does a great job. Allentown Ernie.
I feel pretty optimistic about this game, too, but really, all I want to see is soemthing encouraging. In the last preseason game, seeing us all getting lined up quickly and correctly in the two-minute drill was enough to get me excited. Baby steps, baby, baby steps.
I am so freaking ready man!! I just want to make that big hit or INT, TD whatever and damn that'll get me going crazy! I'm ready, and want to see this team so bad.
I am beyond pumped, and I keep looking at the time. It feels like a long work day right now, just dying for those minutes to tick away. I really want to see a win today. I feel like the Jets made more progress as an organization than the Titans did this offseason, so a loss would be a disappointment. In the end though, I just want to see some very good football be played by our boys. This is the official start to the new Mangini era for us, and we need to get off to the right start.
Yeah, it's going to be nice to see what's next. I'm more excited about Mangini than I've been about any Jet's HC since Parcells. You get very few chances to change the culture of a team permanently and to have a 35 year old guy trying makes the stakes for long-term change enormous.
All I know is I feel a lot better going into this game than I did last year's opener. Hopefully my gut is right again.
