Good. I am glad he is a bore. Do we know the GMs of San francisco or Seattle or Atlanta? They are probably big bores. No more personality guys, no more "Parcells" guys, no more chattawqua tent barkers, no more Kotites, no more nosepickers, no more coaches who play basketball with the guys. I want the Jets to be buttoned down and closed mouthed. i saw a headline that Idzik offered Sanchez "support". Uh, no. What he said, de-coded, was: "We are stuck with this guy, so we might as well let him compete. But we are bringing someone in here for serious competition."
I agree, boring is good when it comes to gm's and coaches. Hopefully he doesn't undergo a transformation after dealing with the Woody and Rex circus.
Rex is on his last legs. He has a year to prove something. Idzik has a multi-year contract. I do not trust Woody, but financially and business-wise it makes sense that Idzik will get to call the shot and Rex will have to make do and try to succeed this year. Why else would Idzik have agreed to take the job? Did Woody tell him that Rex will run things this year and if he fails then you get to run things? I would not take a job like that.
I completely agree with you and also don't trust Woody. I'll have to see how it all plays out over the next year before he can begin to win back my trust. Idzik sounds fine now, but I'm taking a wait and see approach. I still don't like how they handle the media stuff. The entire franchise needs to be on lockdown.
Good summary major33. I dont find him a bore at all, he is insightful and careful about what he says, which is a big plus with the NY media. I like his philosophy on sustainability a lot. That is exactly what a winning formula looks like. I have been bitching about that with our previous regimes at nausea. We will no longer mortgage our future and it might start with a Revis trade. Time will tell
Idzik has said he's gonna take advice from everyone but at the end of the day it's his call. If he sticks to that, it counters what Tanny did allowing Mangini and Rex to influence the picks. It's a good job to go to the coach and see what they think, but the GM should have the last say. Idzik said in another interview that Rex wasn't in the room for either of his GM interviews and that Rex wasn't part of the process until well it became formal and he started meeting with Rex. He said he talked to him outside the interviews but Rex was never present in them
Can't disagree with that except lack of skill players don't make you throw horrible picks and fumble the ball. That's all on the QB. Think a top tier QB does those things regardless of who his skill players are? I'd say no
GM should have the last say, but any manager will seek out opinions of all his people. It's the way business is done.
I thought Idzik said that he spoke with Rex throughout the interview process. If that's the case then I'm worried. Why was Rex even involved in the interview process??? I would have asked Idzik if there was a conflict of interest going forward. Probably why he came on with Boomer and Carton instead of Francesa or Evan and Joe. He didn't want those tough questions. How the heck is Idzik supposed to recommend coaching changes when the guy helping to make the decision on hiring him is one of those coaches?!?!?!? Only with the Jets could this happen. Rex should have been nowhere near those gm interviews. Wouldn't be surprised if that's what turned off Caldwell to the job.
Rex was not present in the interview. I highly doubt Rex was making decisions on his job status. More like 'hey, you might be our new GM. Pleasure to meet you, I'm Rex Ryan'. Doesn't fit you 'Rex is a czar' mentality, though.
Francesa is a piece of shit with an axe to grind. Nobody cares about why idzik didn't speak to the almighty sports pope.
I see your point, but think it's in order to mention that Mark had like 450 attempts, while Stafford had almost 300 more than that.
Sanchez blows. Your fanatical excuse-making and absurdly desperate rationalizations for his awful play aren't fooling anyone.
1) Several of those guys threw the ball considerably more than Sanchez did. 2) They ALL made far more plays down the field
