This may be old news to many people, but I just found that out today. There was a comparison on Peyton and Eli today in the NY Daily News, and the "BEST DRAFT MOVE" for Peyton read "Staying in school so he wouldn't be on the Jets". I had no idea the Jets were planning on drafting him. Interesting stuff...I wonder how he would have done here in NY?
He would probably have been drafted by the Jets the year we drafted Keyshawn. At the time he said he wanted to finish school. He didn't say anything about not wanting to be a Jet.
Jets had the 1 pick in 1996 and 1997. Parcells traded down his first year and took Farrior. The Rams gave the Jets 4 picks for the 1 overall including the 8. Parcells did this after Manning decided not to come out after his junior year.
I really didn't need to remember that but Now you understand what I mean by ALL the Manning's being whiney bitches! Archie Crying about Parcells and Crying about Eli & SD Peyton Crying all game to the refs Eli Crying "I'm not going to SD" during the draft Sad part is that they ALL get what they want cause they can fire footballs out of their poopshoot.
You have it somewhat wrong. It wasn't that Archie didn't want Peyton to play for Parcells, he wanted Parcells word that he was not going to trade the pick. Parcells was building the Jets back up and would have traded Peyton (the 1st pick in the draft) for a bushel full of draft picks.
Ether way I don't think having Peyton would have brought the Jets a SB as he has shown an unbeiliveble ability to come up short in big games.
No, it was the year after we drafted Keyshawn, 1997. Parcells just took over, and the rumor was Peyton's dad told him to stay in school because the Jets wouldn't guarantee they'd take him #1 (they said they may trade it). He did, and Parcells traded a few times around the top 10 and ended up with Farrior.
So the actual truth is basically 100% the opposite of the NY Daily News headline? "Staying in school so he wouldn't be on the Jets". == "Staying in school as they was no guarentee he was going to be on the Jets"
True, but I'll admit, the first rumor was he wanted no part of Parcells. It came out a lot later the real reason, and you know journalists... Facts.. why research them?
Yeah, I doubt Parcells would ever take a qb with the first pick. He loves veteran qb's who don't need to be developed. I guess Pennington was the exception but who knows how long he would have waited to play him.
My bad. That was how I remembered it. I've killed quite a number of brain cells in the time between then and now. Thanks for the clarification.
