I think because of this situation we should try and deal Abe for a 2007 1st rounder.... giving us an oppurtunity to package our 1sts for Quinn if we're not in position to get him already.[/QUOTE] great idea
This is a great idea. It gives you a year to figure out if Pennington or the later round QB you will draft will be any good. If either one is it certainly doesn't hurt to have 2 number one picks.
Ditto. I almost feel bad wishing him gone but I do. It's not 2002 anymore and there is no longer a Herm on the sidelines. I'm sure we will still get a QB in the draft but what type? Our future starter ie Young, Lienart, Cutler type or Croyle, Jacobs type? I would hate to go into the draft and pick a back up and POSSIBLE starter when there seem to be 3 guys that, depending on what you read, can be starters for years to come but are passed up cause we have Chad for another year. With our line in disarray if we keep Chad in as a starter 1 or 2 good hits would end his career.
That's ridiculous. You don't make a trade this year in the hopes of drafting a particular player next year. sheesh
Why not..that's creative thinking and big picture thinking. No one says it would happen but its all about having future leverage. You might want to refresh yourself on the creative thinking that led to Larry Bird becoming a Celtic
Of course you may not get the player you want. But having two picks vs. one increases you odds. Leverage
I think the wording of this is off. My best guess, if it has any merit at all, is that he's rewriting ONE year, this year, of his contract to have a base salary of 3 million, instead of 6 million, and throwing out the 3 million roster bonus. Assuming that's the case, he'll count 3 million salary + 3 million bonus proration, which is half as much as 6 million salary + 3 million bonus + 3 million roster bonus. A new one year deal at 3 million salary would accelerate his bonus to count 15 million against this years cap. Not going to happen. Perhaps the FO is counting on an uncapped 2007. If Chad can't make it back, we cut him next offseason and clear 9 million off the books with no reprocussions.
Finally someone who has a clue. Theres no chance in hell they rip up his old contract and give him a new deal.
