I'm posting this here because I know Leberfeld and some of the beat writers that contribute to Jets Confidential sometimes read the posts. I received my paper copy of Jets Confidential in the mail yesterday. I've been a subscriber to this paper for many years and always look forward to it arriving to catch up on any tidbits I've missed through the week and to get the latest matchup information for the upcoming game. What a disappointment this weeks copy was. In the whispers section there is a whole paragraph on the impact Joel Dreessen will have this year. In the beginning there is talk about the veteran leadership at all positions on this team, they were especially high on Ray Mickens in the secondary, and let's not gloss over the impact that Darrel McClover is going to have on the special teams this year. And then the icing on the cake, when discussing this weeks matchups there is not even a mention of Kerry Collins, rather the strengths and weaknesses of Billy Volek. No where was there any discussion on the latest cuts and the thought process that went into them; not to mention the impacts they'll have on the team. There are many other problems with this copy, basically it looks like it was written two weeks ago with no new updates.

This is a disgrace. It seems like more and more they are trying to cater to their online business rather than their print copy. In this age of the internet, paying for their online service is worthless as all of the news is readily available to us all. I've always enjoyed getting the paper copy, it usually has a bit of news that has flew under the radar screen, plus I enjoy collecting them as I have over a hundred of them already. Sadly, if their product continues to dip to these levels I will shortly be an ex-subscriber....

things like this are a relic of the past. what could they possibly put in there that you can't find out in 5 minutes on tgg.com? before the internet and round the clock football coverage i'm sure something like this was useful, but they've got to be on the way out at this point.

Have you ever read the paper, or are you just saying these publications in general are a thing of the past? Just curious, because up until this recent addition, I would say that you are wrong. I'm all over the net daily but I would always get some interesting tidbits from that paper that I didn't know. I thought maybe the clamp down on the players may have been causing problems, but I was a subscriber during the Parcells era and this was never an issue. Until this week, I have always found this to be a worthwhile publication for Jets fans. Hopefully this was just an anomaly, but I have a feeling it will be more like a trend. We will see....

I was speaking in general, I've never read Jets Insider. I just can't imagine there being much worthwhile information that isn't discussed half to death on boards like this though.

I can get far more insightful and objective comments and opinions from Jets fans on message boards than any beat writer is capable of providing, or in many cases is even allowed by their editors. JC.com is a dinosaur, and it's funny to see other sites latch onto their format like it's new and refreshing. Print journalism is dead.

Call me old school, but I still like sitting in the recliner with the sports section of the Sunday paper and a hot cup of joe....

Hey, I have nothing wrong with reading a paper, but these days I have trouble finding something worth kicking back and reading when it comes to football. The internet just torches anything comparable in print.

Ditto!!! I can remember when that was 90% of the "Jets News". How time has changed.

Jets Confidential definitely has suffered in its quality for the past couple of seasons.

When I first moved from new York to georgia 12 years ago, that paper was a godsend for Jets info. Ever since the internet came along, Jet info is easier to access. Even then, there was usually a lot of things in JC that were of interest and not found on the net.

In past year or so, that has not been the case. I am considering not re-upping when my subscription ends.

They said that books were dead once too. There is a lot to be said for being able to pick something up and read it wherever you are without having to peer at a computer screen. You can also pick it up again 20 years later and spark a few memories.

Print journalism and online journalism complement each other. Print journalism can no longer break stories, so the best writers give you deep, well-researched pieces that you just will not find on the internet.

Maybe becaue I'm a journalist I'm a bit touchy about this! But I think it's possible to love the internet and newspapers, and books.

Me and my Dad have been getting JC for probably 15 years at least. The problem JC is going to have is not only the info avaiable on the Internet, but the fact that they will get no 'inside scoops' from Tangini. Why do you think they bash them at every turn. It kills their livelihood.

I canceled my JC sub 2 yrs ago. My Dad still gets his. You can still get some decent scoops form it as long as you the online version of it so you can get the news realtime. The paper version takes days to print and mail. It certainly is a relic.

3rdand15 said it right. Publications like this are a thing of the past. The problem is it takes time for the articles to be written, then PRINTED, mailed and then read. That LAG kills the publication in the internet age. Heck, even newspapers which have that lag down to as small a time window as possible are not effective. I can log into the paper and read what I want right now.

Technology is making print obsolete. I'm not saying that next week newspapers are going away, but in the next 50 years or so the production of print media is going to be superseded by universally affordable personal travel computers that you can buy a book immediately online and read it right there (a more advanced version of a laptop). And the screens will no longer be taxing to look at, as technology will also advance beyond light-emitting screens to media that pixelates and tones on an opaque surface like a moving picture or photograph.

There will be no end until Skynet takes over.

I used to be a regular caller on Sports on 1 years ago when Bud Mishkin and Steve Cangelosi (sp) would have Leberfeld on once a week.

He seemed genuinely excited about reporting JETS news and would love talking JETS football.

Maybe he's just spreading himself too thin which is along the lines of what you said.

I gave up JC after 7 yrs. I liked the DC and matchup pages but couldn't stand half a page of Leberfelds rants about someone being mean to him, or unavailable for interview. I used to think to paper came a day or two late after a jet loss because Leberfeld went into total meltdown.

its kinda like those free real estate mags you get in the supermarket...if you find a house there its most likely under deposit already because of the MLS and the internet
