This post certainly justified your previous post about "no way in hell do we draft a guard at 9". Basically, neither made sense. B. Mingo? My God.
I have a soft spot for Dion...but you go Warmack. I'm all in for Warmack, why would you pass on a 10 year Pro-Bowler (barring injury) for some hope at a different position. Take him, and take your shots later in the draft. Focus on college PRODUCTION - I feel like we never do this.
Sucks how things are taken as facts in this board. Things like Te'o being a legit top 5 option and Mingo being a reach. Mingo had an off year but is probably the most athletic OLB available and actually has previous production (unlike guys without technique like Jordan and Ansah) -Elite speed -lighting quick 1st step -great spin move -slippery in the backfield -good run defender -no character concerns - surprisingly strong Mingo is a fine choice at #9.
-Irregular body type - Struggles to bend around the edge - Limited upper body strength w/ string bean arms - Counter moves including the spin are only average He does have a great first step & a good motor. But he has all the makings of a part time situational player.
Going to be interesting when we start to see which players start creating more of a buzz starting in about 5 weeks when the combine starts, over that week we'll see some players stocks rise and fall...okay so I'm stating the obvious.
I think it would be a terrible decision to not take Warmack at 9. We could try to trade down a few picks to pick up another pick, but as it stands we'll be going into next season with Slauson and Ducasse as our guards. We're going to get our QB (whomever that may be) and our RBs killed if that is the case. In fact, I'd have no problem drafting Warmack round one and a Barret Jones or a Jonathan Cooper or a Larry Warford in round 2 while giving Austin Howard another year to see if he further develops.
After watching the 49ers offense dominate, I would really like Warmack. The 49ers are basically the better, real version of the Jets. Where does it all start for them? Up front in the trenches. They have a great OL and I would love for the Jets to resemble that. A 1-2 punch of Warmack and then Lacy would do this offense SO much. You would then have a great group in the run game with an above average pass blocking group with the chance to be very good with Vlad and Howard still being young. Hopefully you can add a TE or WR like Marcus Wheaton in round 3 and then you have a nice group on offense. In 2014, go get your franchise QB and he isnt stepping into a shit hole and actually has some talent around him. Ideally you trade back 4-5 spots and then draft Warmack, but Im not sure if you take that risk
I'd like to see what happens if we trade down to 13 or 14. I think Carolina could be our friend this draft.
A Warmack & Jones double would be nice except Jones most likely is gone by the 2nd round slot (#39). They could trade down but how far down do you go before risking someone snapping up Warmack?
Forgot about that, but I'm more interested in who over rises or falls in the combines Though granted there could be some big winners and losers draft wise in the senior bowl.
The only reason to draft Mingo is that it will be funny that when I text someone to complain about how invisible he is my iPhone will change it into "Bark Envious Mango." Which, you must admit, is funny. Not a great way to build a football team, but funny nonetheless.
Is there a particular player you see Carolina trading up to obtain? or do you think they'll just trade up no matter what?
Sorry I'd rather see us grab someone who can help us get the quarterback than a short guard. Mingo might not be the right pick but chances are we're going to have an elite passrusher on the board with the 9th pick. Decastro was a better guard and you didn't see us passing on Coples for him. Why don't you study draft value before laughing at my posts.
So not wanting to waste our pick on a guard makes me not studied on the NFL. We need a difference maker on the team our line isn't that bad we have more important needs than guard with our first pick.
No, rating Mingo ahead of Warmack is absurd. It has nothing t do with the position OLB vs Guard. It has everything to do with an Elite player vs a Good (not great) player.
Decastro wasnt a better prospect... You should check your resources. Everything I have read and seen has Warmack as the best interior lineman in the last decade. He's a top 5 player, and just because he is a guard doesn't mean he doesn't deserve a top 10 selection. Im not sure if you watched the Jets this year or the 49ers, you can see how valuable offensive line play is, including the interior. The Jets have two very underwhelming players at guard, meanwhile the 49ers have two of the best. Everything starts up front and that is why the 49ers dominate.
