Doesn't matter whether we agree or disagree. Die is already cast.

Hahahaha, Nostradamus - now I get it.

Well, when your boss (you know, the OC) is a clueless douche that cant get you the ball in a game designed to maximize your ability...it's not all that hard to see.

Holmes is an explosive intermediate range playmaker.

The very area Schitty doesnt believe in.

    Last March predictions. Now:

    1. Tanny gone
    2. Sanchez and Tebow gone - whatever the cost
    3. Sparano gone
    4. Rex probably gets one more year but hard to see how he can be successful based on offensive needs. Sad thing is we are a playoff team last year, this year and probably next year with a top 20 offense. Rex won't deliver that offense. He needs an independent offensive coordinator who wants to win games on offense. I get the impression if you told Rex he had the option to be spotted 20 points, he would play 60 minutes of D any day of the week.

last year you nailed. i hope you nail it again this year. the only thing that scares me is woody telling a new gm that he has to keep any coach. thats just bad business and will end up with us getting a lesser gm than we should.

Interesting thing to me is that they initially added Drew Stanton as a supposed real threat to Sanchez and then got side tracked by the Tebow debacle. As bad as it has looked, it really wouldn't have taken much from the offense to get this team to the playoffs. It would have been nice to see the season play out with a true option at QB. It would have been better for the team and probably would have been better for Sanchez.

As to Tebow and Stanton, both seem to indicate they were promised a real shot at the QB job. Is this a disconnect between Tanny and Rex? Shows horrible communication and typically would indicate a precursor of credibility problems between front office, coaching staff and players. We may be in for another summer of discontent with players bashing the team. Can't see how Rex could survive that if it were to happen.

What would be the reason to cut holmes exactly? would it save us $$ to reinvest elsewhere? If not, how much would making this great statement cost the team?

you know its funny that you were just telling someone that they should read the posts. you obviously didnt read the new posts to this year old thread or you would understand that this was brought to the top for a different reason than anything about holmes.

The reason to cut Holmes last January was that the Jets were likely in rebuild mode and it would have been nice to get rid of the huge cap hit then instead of creating a cap problem that would continue through the 2013 season.

The contract was written in a way that Holmes was nearly un-cuttable in 2012, unless the Jets were in rebuild mode for the year and willing to go with JAG's at WR since they'd have no money to sign a competent WR if they took the Holmes cap hit.

However if Holmes was still on the roster as of a given date his salary for 2012 and 2013 became guaranteed, making him uncuttable.

Now given that we wound up playing bargain basement JAG's at WR anyway it's pretty obvious that we just hurt ourselves in a big way by keeping Holmes around for 2012 *and* 2013 instead of just cutting him when he became a problem in the locker room.

What exactly did Holmes do wrong this year? He made one boneheaded TO when injured and in excruciating pain. Make a statement, cut your best player on offense, when our offense looked like dogshit without him. Makes perfect sense in irrational emotional Jets fan land.

Him being our best offensive player isnt saying much. He's honestly not that good. He'd be lucky if he were a top 40 WR.

He's good when you have a deep threat and good slot receiver to compliment him.

That's pretty irrelevant unless the Jets bring in some receivers who are better than him.

If the Jets let Keller walk, then Holmes would quite literally be their only playmaker on offense. We're bad enough on that side of the ball without cutting off our nose to spite our face.

Letting Keller walk doesn't seem that bad. though I am not rooting for it. there ARE WR options its just about having the cap...which is a problem.

    Mike Wallace is a UFA
    Dwayne Bowe
even Welker might be a FA
