Tannenbaum should be fired for the simplest of reasons: the Jets aren't that good at this point and he's had a full cycle (2006-2012) to work on making them good and failed to do that. Yeah the 2009 and 2010 teams were better than a lot of teams in the AFC but they weren't in the elite either season and the Jets certainly aren't headed there now. A GM either gets it or he doesn't. Things click or they don't. For Tannenbaum things have clicked occasionally but they've been way off just as often. Moving forward there is no reason to expect the Jets to be even at the high end of the range they have established, let alone elite. That argues for a new approach to try to take the step up in the top tier. We're not getting there doing what we've been doing over this last cycle.
I think if we make the right moves we will be right where we left off in 2010 and will be right back in the mix of things. We aren't as far off as people think if the right changes are made
YES, for the love of God YES. No one should even be disputing this. From bad drafting to horrible contracts the huge amount of bad completely outweighs the spark of good he's done.
Since that person did not explain a single reason why he should be kept I bet they just voted for Tanny for the sake of being a douche.
He should be fired but the same guy who hired him is going to hire the next guy. It won't matter unless the league steps in. Tannenbaum did a very good job of building a contender for the 2008 and 2009 season. We have been in talent decline since and his style with a HC who can't evaluate offensive talent probably can't rebuild this thing a second time. He also failed on 2 first day draft picks to get a franchise type QB for this team.
Biggs how much of those teams was Mangini ? Also Tanny threw his good buddy Eric under the bus to save his own hide when in reality the both could have and should have been shitcanned not just Mangini,,,,,,,
this is really the biggest move of the off season, the rest of it fully depends upon this move. if the jets bring in a player personnel guy like we are hearing rumors about its going to be a terrible terrible move and off season. hopefully they get rid of tannenbaum and bring in a real gm who can mold this team into a perennial contender with vision and stability. i am very very afraid that woody will fuck this up royally though.
Yes really!!!! FO needs a restructuring, but i agree that some of his extensions to Pace, Scott, others are very questionable...
should tanny be fired? the answer is yes.his replacement might already be in the front office.lets hear it now.
Alleycat. You are correct ,,,woody could easily screw this up,,,,,I mean who is the person helping him make these decisions ? If he is picking a new GM on his own I agree we are royally screwed ! I really fear that woody is going to put a band aide on this mess and promote from within and worse yet keep Tanny on board,,,,,,this would be my worse case scenario ,,,,,I want it blown up and made from scratch
90% of these types eventually stop posting. in any event, yes tannenbaum should be fired. it's a no brainer.
The offense STUNK and Holmes wasn't so good. If he is their best player, then the entire offense needs to be replaced. And how about that cap management? He had Wayne Hunter sign a guaranteed contract after having a horrendous season. Sanchez's contract is ridiculous, as is Holmes' contract. Most of the linebackers are playing under guaranteed contracts and they shouldn't even be in the league anymore. He's a total failure. FIRE HIM!
I'd like to hear from the four people who said no as to why they think he has done well enough to keep his job. What about what he's done in the past six years has been so good? He's supposed to be a cap guru. But he can't even manage our cap well. God awful contract with Sanchez, bad contract with Holmes, bad contracts Pace (7.3mil in cap!?), Scott (6mil in cap!?). And he can't get his shit together with Revis. The guy is unable to properly do his job.
Plain and simple: Tanny's "strength" (cap management) is the Jets' greatest weakness going into the 2013 season.
