Another preseason has come to pass. We've critiqued and criticized, analyzed, pondered and plundered down the usual roads we take this time of the year, as we prepare ourselves for another season of Jet football. Despite our differences in opinions, cultures and philosophies, we all share one undeniable similarity, we’re all die hard Jet fans, that bleed green with every pass, catch fumble and snap. And if put into the same room during a Jet game, would be hugging and high-fiving each other, consoling and comforting each other during every thrilling or disappointing moment. We have been fortunate to have a pretty competitive team for the last 7 or 8 years. Some franchises can’t say that. We rode the Parcells era till the end, and flirted with the Super Bowl. We maintained that talent with Al Groh, started off strong, only to be let down in the end. Herm came in, and did it his way, with motivation, color and passion, and like him or not, keep us in the mix for the last 5 years. Now we have a new regime with Magini. There’s the unknown, the unproven, which invariably will lead to speculation and criticism. We can harness that frustration, by putting this season in the proper perspective. We finally have a group of exciting young talent on this team with the potential for explosive playmaking. That in itself is plenty to be optimistic about. For awhile we’ve had aging players, whose talents and skills were slowly eroding before our eyes. Now we have kids like Smith, Washington, Clemens, Brick, Mangold, Miller and Rhodes. These are players who have the potential to become All-Pros in a couple of years, and that in itself is scintillating. This may be a very frustrating season for us in terms of wins and loses, but I think we all should be excited about the culture change and possibilities to come. I know we’re not making the playoffs this year, and will probably lose to Tenn. on Sunday; but I’m excited at the thought of seeing Leon Washington run a KO for a TD, or Brad Smith taking a reverse to the house, or Kerry Rhodes delivering a monster hit. Talent is the key to winning in the NFL, and we finally have an exciting group we can call our own. Let’s get excited for that!
hehe from one extreme to the next... In any case ... well said. For a change, young guys can come in and make a difference on offense instead of rotting away. We'll develop new schemes to try to capitalize on our strengths/opponents weaknesses, instead of just trying the same crap again and again. We refuse to settle, and constantly try to bring in guys that could end up being the difference. Say what you will about this regime, but you can't say they aren't doing everything they can to make this team better for now and the future. I'm a realist, but damn, since when has the titans become a powerhouse? I expect a WIN this sunday, even if we don't see another W for the next month after that....
Well said, I was at a family reunion last weekend, and I got the question, from someone, why the Jets, well I told him that they have just been my team and i do not really know why, I picked them when i was generally just an NFL fan, being Canadian I have the option of no loyaties whatsoever and family members do not really watch NFL so I was free to choose, I replied that I am excited about the season because of Vilma, Rhodes, Smith, Clemens, Barton, Miller, Ferguson and Mangold, they are some young exciting players and also my favourites in the game. I am actually looking forward to this season more than the last
I am excited about the young guys like smith and washington who may actually be able to provide the explosive come outta your chair play...hopefully the growing pains wont be too severe
I always thought lowered expectations came 5 minutes before clossing time not 5 minutes before the bar opened.
