Hear me out, I thought we were mathematically eliminated as well. Now, looking at the standings, I think its possible that we could still get in.

Please don't turn this into a thread about how bad this team is, I know that, I just wanted to see if we are still mathematically alive.

    Right now the standings are:

    6. Cincinnati:8-6
    7. Pittsburgh:7-7
    8. Jets 6-8
    9. Dolphins 6-8

Lets say Cincinnati loses out, and thats quite possible considering they have Pittsburgh and Baltimore. That would put them at 8-8 with a 1-5 division record and a 5-7 conference record.

If Pittsburgh wins today against Cincinnati, and loses next week against Pittsburgh that puts them at 8-8, with a 3-3 division record and a 5-7 conference record.

Now lets say we win out, we would be 8-8 with a 6-6 conference record

That would give us a better conference record than both Cincinnati and Pittsburgh, therefore we should make the playoffs if those scenarios were to happen.

Once again, lets not turn this into a Jets bashing thread, I just wanted to see if I am missing something in this equation or if we are not actually mathematically eliminated.

Thats something I didn't account for, I guess. I forgot about the division tiebreaker first, so I guess this thread can be locked be a moderator.

Yes, no matter how everything plays out today, we lost a game..... Something that automatically eliminates us.

Yes, Mark Sanchez's poor performance has ensured that we are mathematically eliminated.

I made the same mistake, I thought all teams tied for a wildcard are decided through conference tiebreaker first.

It actually makes more sense to break a wildcard tie via conference record than first division teams head to head then winner against other tied teams.....if all non division winners are eligable for a WC they should all compete on an equal playing field when it comes to breaking ties IMO.

you think every single NFL analyst, and the NFL themselves got it wrong? LOL

At this point I'm hoping the Jets lose out for better draft position, but knowing them they'll blow out SD and BUF.
