Think of it this way, let's say you knew the Jets were going to be 4-12 next year. Would you rather a repeat of this year with Sanchez embarrassing us to 4-12, or a team packed with rookies playing us to 4-12, giving them valuable experience and allowing the team to evaluate talent for the future?
See if you can pay half his salary and have another team take him off our hands. Some team out there will be arrogant enough to believe that they can fix him.
He'll be back next year but he needs to be benched. No ifs ands or buts about it. Only way I would say he should see the field next season is due to injury or if they bring a guy in, Flynn, smith etc and Sanchez clearly above and beyond outplays them in training camp and even with with given Sanchez's track record he deserves a very very short leash. Any grace period from those 2 afc title games is long gone
If you are going to basically waste a year developing players, you might want to make sure that you have players that you will want to keep around for a couple of years. I'm guessing that's why he asked about UDFAs, as they rarely pan out. Silly to spend a year giving them playing time, only to release them at the end of the year.
Cut him and eat the money. Sign a vet like Matt Moore who is a FA then start rebuilding immediately. Morre will win a couple of games considering the lack of talent the Jets will have but you either do it now or put off what is inevitable another year. At this point you need to seriously consider trading Revis for picks. Having a stud CB with minimal talent spread across the team is not the way to begin a rebuild.
You play to win the Championship. Rebuild using the draft. You don't just waste an entire season trying develop talent. That is for spring training and preseason and of course regular games as well. Jets need to draft players for long term solution. You can't just let udfas play and then let them go.
Whichever has less guaranteed money in 2014 But the reference was about how the Jets won't be able to afford a 53 man roster before Sanchez is cut and the dead money is frontloaded.
The Super Bowl is in our stadium next year. We already know Woody wants Sanchez out. He's not going to want to go into 2013 with a rookie, Sanchez or McElroy starting. God knows what we do, but probably re-do Mark's deal and send him to San Diego with a bushel of picks for Rivers, or something equally batshit crazy.
I wouldn't mind somebody like Matt Hasselbeck here next year with Sanchez on the bench and McElroy the future.
hey I'm pretty sure we could trade Sancez for a first and second round pick! Unfortunately we'd be the ones giving the first and second round picks for another team to take him.
keep him bring in a legit backup for a legit QB competition in camp surround both QBs w/ more weapons on offense
How in the world can you justify even considering starting Sanchez to your fan base? You still have not seen enough?
No reason to cut him, I mean he's guaranteed 8.5 million, but he needs to start 2013 as the backup. They'll have to look for a veteran QB signing in the offseason, wish I had some good suggestions, Rivers is a pipe dream, not happening.
I'd go with Alex Smith, to be honest. He's really improved. He might not win games with his arm, but he definitely won't lose them. That's really all we need with the kind of defense we have.
He'll cost too much, we'll need to go after a veteran currently backing up in the league. No way we can pay Sanchez 8.5 mil, Smith's salary and the draft picks we need to give up for him.
That involves trading which has cost the Jets in depth. The FA QBs to cosider are Matt Moore, Jason Campbell and Drew Stanton.
