Hempstead, NY ? The New York Jets announced they have claimed tight end Zachary Hilton off waivers from New Orleans and defensive lineman Rashad Moore off waivers from Oakland. To make room on the roster, the Jets waived wide receiver Wallace Wright and defensive tackle Titus Adams. The announcements were made by Jets? General Manager Mike Tannenbaum. Hilton, 6-8, 268, is entering his fourth season in the NFL out of the University of North Carolina. Last season, the former Saints? undrafted free agent, gained 396 yards on 35 receptions with one touchdown. Moore, 6-3, 325, a former sixth-round selection by Seattle, is entering his third season in the NFL. In 2004, Moore notched career-highs in tackles with 46, sacks with two and fumble recoveries with three. Wright, an undrafted free agent, played four seasons for the University of North Carolina Tar Heels after originally entering school as a walk-on before earning a scholarship. Wright was the primary kickoff return man for UNC the past four seasons and added 23 receptions for 312 yards and three touchdowns. Adams, a former seventh-round selection of the Jets, has played in 48 games for the University of Nebraska. Adams made 21 starts and recorded 134 career tackles, 3.5 sacks and two interceptions, returning one of the picks for a touchdown while with the Cornhuskers.
Zach Hilton was supposed to be a "fantasy sleeper" with New Orleans...he's got so much potential. Rashad Moore is huge.
We got rid of the guy who made the game saving tackle on Friday night!!!!!!!!!! That sucks. I liked Titus.
all of the sudden we have good NT depth. Given that D Rob and Kimo have the versatility to play there and with Mosely and Moore back there we have some real size inside. Its been a long time since we've been able to say that. If moore or mosely emerges as a starting candidate and D Rob continues his strong play at end we could have our front three locked in for a long time. Good things
Hilton can't block worth a damn, but he's a much better receiver than Dresseen. Hilton is Doug Jolley with better hands and a bigger frame. Adams we've talked about in other threads. Good fit here. Sad to see Titus go, but with the acquisitions of Mosley and Hamilton, there's no need for him anymore. He'll be PS'd along with Wright, probably.
So now our Tight Ends are: Chris Baker, Zach Hilton, and Sean Ryan. Decent Combination at the position if Sean Ryan turns out to be as good a blocker as he's made out to be
I can live with them being used in package that fit their abilities...i hope ryan is as good a blocker and Hilton as good a catcher as this forum is making them out to seem...if so i say we made some good pickups before the season opener...now all we need is branch and i say our offense is looking better already...but its looking less and less like that will happen...
Doug Jolley has one of the best pair of hands in the NFL.... but he's a choke artist. He can't do it in real games, but in practice? He's freakin awesome, hands-wise. Hilton is a solid pick up.
I expected Hilton to have a nice year in NO, seeing how Brees loves to throw to his tight end. I hope he does the same here, he's a big guy.
Hilton sounds interesting though I'm not sure he's that much of an upgrade over Dressen. My understanding of Dressen was that he had good hands, was a solid blocker, and was a long snapper. Pretty much a trifecta for TEs. With Baker having good hands and being a decent blocker and the guy we picked up from the Cowboys being a good blocker I'm still not sure why Dressen was cut since he seemed to have plenty of upside. Moore seems to add some size to the DL so that might be nice.
